Here is your co-host -> Sharon is a passionate advocate for engaging today's young generation in topics of the African continent  and the diaspora. Fascinated by the arts and the power of social media, she created African & Afro-Diasporan
Art Talks (AADAT) in June 2013 to serve as an innovative platform for conversation, exploring social themes  as conveyed in art. The platform provides regular content which includes a weekly YouTube video, engaging articles
with great commentary, and conversations are hosted live through social media.

The Bachelor of Commerce graduate was recently recognized as a #55FORWARD ambassador, representing Ghana at Social Media Week Lagos. Sharon plans to leverage social media as a  consistent part of a movement to motivate youth to create the change they seek.

On February 4, 2014, popular social networking site Facebook celebrated its 10th anniversary. To celebrate, the company released a series of 'look back' videos for its users.

Since going global in September 2006, Facebook has recorded a steady increase in it's users on the African continent. In March 2013, that number was estimated to be about 50 million, with the largest user populations in Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria.

Other social and new media platforms like Twitter, Youtube, and Whatsapp are also gaining popularity and extending their reach beyond social interactions to business, development, and political engagement.

Which are the most popular social networking sites in Africa?
How do Africans utilize Facebook and other social media sites?
What is the influence of social networking sites on contemporary societies in Africa?
What is the outlook for social media in Africa?

Our February 2014 Hangout explores these issues. Hosted by Blogging Ghana, the hangout features social media enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and bloggers from Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria:

James Murua,  @jamesmurua
Robert Kunga, @Mwirigi
Monica Jeannormil,@MsJeannormil
Bernard Kelvin Clive, @BernardKelvin
Anthony Nguru
Kennedy Kachwanya

The hangout will be moderated by Jemila Abdulai (@jabdulai) and Kajsa Hallberg Adu (@kajsa).

Follow the event via Twitter hashtag #SocialMediaAfrica  and look out for the live video stream!

We hope you join us.
