This is a must read if you have a blog and value SEO. It's probably more valuable to those who aren't already using G+, but I'm just doing my part to spread the word... ;)

Perfect transitional look...

You just can't go wrong with chambray + a flowy skirt for early fall. Check out how Sarah styled the look for her recent trip to New York!

Reminder: Tomorrow LA Coffee is hosting a hangout "How to Extract the Perfect Shot" at 9PM EDT.  I'm not too keen on the notion of a "perfect" anything. But it will be a good trial run of hangouts as a means of sharing espresso knowledge with enthusiasts.

Hi, my name is Erin and I'm a Biscuits and Gravy Addict. Two years ago I had never had Biscuits and Gravy in my life. Now, I am virtually dependent. This is what Pine State Biscuits will do to you. On a side note: because this location is so small and it's so hard to find seating, the best time to come is on, like, Tuesday, at about 10am. Dangit. Now, I've gone and told you all my secrets!

I'm not kidding, and I'm not exaggerating: best. coffee. ever. anywhere. Don't take a coffee newbie here: it's expensive, and they won't appreciate it. Don't take your friend here if they say "oh, maybe I'll just get a tea"... no. You get coffee at Barista. The best coffee you have ever tasted. Personally, I like the Mocha. It's is the only place in Portland, and probably the world that I would order a sissy-coffee drink like that. You see, their mocha isn't milk chocolate sweetness, it's a dark, hard-hitting, bitter concoction of amazingness. You know that scene in the movie Elf, where he walks into a coffee shop and says "you did it!! World's best coffee, congratulations!!" ... that's what I want to say every time I'm here.

I really like to come here for brunch. They have such delicious pastries, quiches, soups, salads and paninis, and let me just assure you--it's not your run of the mill cafe. They are baking artisans. And the rustic, rather provencal atmosphere makes me melt with nostalgia for France. Extra hint: don't forget to buy a loaf of Ciabatta or Pugliese before you head out! ;)

Good place to come for beers or with friends from out of town, but I'd just as soon grab a variety pack at Fred Meyers and cook my own dinner, frankly.

It's o-kay. A very "meat and potatoes" place. They serve consistently decent food for a reasonable price.

Some of the Lucky Lab brewpubs are good, others are not so good. This one is pretty awesome, if you like the warehouse atmosphere. I would recommend avoiding the pizza with whole cloves of garlic all over it--it might seem like a good idea while you're there, but trust me, you'll be thanking me later.

I had the strangest experience ever here. Just after my boyfriend and I had placed our order, the power went out down the entire block. They told us that although the stove was gas powered, there were no windows in the kitchen and they couldn't see so they would not be able to finish our food. Then, another couple got angry and left, so they actually offered us their food for free (which was fine by us). Halfway through eating it, the lights came back on and so they finished cooing our food and brought it out--mancakes and all. I have never been so full in my life--like, not even after Thanksgiving. And after all of that, they charged us like, a third of the cost of everything. Long story short: it was the best customer service I have ever gotten anywhere, and they were under quite a bit of pressure. Aside from that, the food was yummy , the portions (by themselves) were HUGE, and the diner atmosphere was really fun. I give it two thumbs up!
