An increasingly sophisticated threat ecosystem, highlighted by several high-profile data breaches, has raised cyber security to a board-level issue. With good reason: The Ponemon Institute estimates that cybercrime cost U.S. companies an average of $12.7 million in 2014 – up from $11.6 million in the prior year. How can IT organizations get their arms around the cyber threat and decrease risk across the entire business?
Scott Angelo, global chief information officer for international law firm K&L Gates, will discuss these and other cyber security issues during our next CIO Live! Event. At K&L Gates, Scott is responsible for strategic technology planning and direction, architecture, operations, business resilience, and cyber security. He previously served as corporate vice president and chief information officer for Diebold, Inc. and has held other senior technology management positions with Ernst & Young LLP, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Special Programs Office and McDonnell Douglas Corporation. Scott also served as a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1986 through 2001.
Join Scott and IDG’s Rob O’Regan for this live broadcast on Sept. 17 at 2pm ET for a lively discussion on how CIOs can protect their organization’s core assets from the growing cyber threat.

As vice president of IT for the largest environmental solutions provider in North America, Gautam Roy has more on his mind than technology infrastructure and operations.
A major reason for the continued success of Waste Management, Inc. is customer service, and with more than 20 million customers in the U.S. and Canada Roy and the rest of the IT team take that responsibility very seriously. The company has the largest network of recycling facilities, transfer stations and landfills in the industry, but at the end of the day it is all about customer satisfaction and experience. To accomplish this, the firm relies on a number of social, mobile and collaborative tools to connect to both private and corporate customers.
A few years ago Waste Management also launched a massive mobile initiative that provided customers with real-time control over refuse pickup and recycling activities, saving them money and advancing Waste Management’s green goals.
Roy’s technology mission is to deliver highly-available, effective, and value-based services, while ensuring security and business continuity. He and his team are also charged with delivering tech solutions that will help North America’s largest residential recycler manage more than 20 million tons every year by 2020, up from the more than 12 million tons in 2012.
Please join CIO Executive Council Director of Strategic Content Tim Scannell in a CIO Live! event on June 11 at 2pm ET as he talks with Roy about his company’s efforts in cloud applications, mobility, the Internet of Things and Big Data. This highly interactive session will allow attendees to ask questions and offer comments on multiple platforms as we explore the importance of technology innovation in achieving a greener and cleaner world.
