I have a feeling +J.P. Harvey will have a mighty need for this T-shirt. Too bad it's an SDCC exclusive and I'm not attending.
Happy #Thorsday  !

Japanese map site Mapion asks "Where's Waldo?"

Mapion has hidden Waldo (or Wally as he is known in other places) in their maps and challenges you to find him and some of his friends in the given time limit. The pages are in Japanese, so yay for those of you who can read Japanese, but the brave might be able to figure it out without actually reading it (hint: push the green buttons to proceed, drag the map to look around, click on the things they've asked you to find.)

Enjoy watching Ghibli movies and learn some Japanese with this guide from Tofugu!

The ever helpful folk at Tofugu have compiled some commonly heard words in Ghibli movies into a sort of Japanese learner's dictionary.  I used to make something like these for my college-aged English learners. I would begin by pre-teaching them some words and phrases repeated in a movie, then have them watch the movie without subtitles to see if they could catch them and any other English they knew. Then they were allowed to watch it with subtitles where there were many "A-ha! I thought that was what he was saying!" moments to be enjoyed :)

Here's the post that well help you do the same thing with Japanese: http://www.tofugu.com/2015/02/23/ghibli-dictionary-japanese-study-guide-revolution/ It's always easier to learn when you are enjoying it, so this may just be the thing for you!

In Nagano, Japan there is a memorial for undelivered mail. Because I know I wouldn't want unsettled correspondence ghosts haunting me.

Chiika has a great YouTube channel for English speakers learning Japanese. There are a lot of general culture/travel posts, but language lessons too. If you're a bit more advanced, she also has a Japanese channel for learning English that I like to watch.  Those videos have more Japanese in them, so you can practice your listening skills but still glean lots of useful conversational phrases.

Once upon a time, I was having some trouble with my bank account at +Simple .  In fact, due to some upgrades they put in, other customers were too.  When I contacted Natalie in their customer service department, I didn't blame her, and didn't get angry.  I'm sure she'd heard so many complaints and frustrated people, she didn't need it from me too.  I've worked customer service, and I know what it's like. Eventually bugs were fixed, and I continued using +Simple , because frankly, it's pretty awesome.

So today, I received this box from Simple.  Inside there was a really nice letter thanking me for my kindness.  It included a bag of coffee from +Coava Coffee Roasters (smells wonderful!) and a screen-printed tote bag.  Can I just say, I was touched by the gesture?  It's above and beyond them just saying "thank you" and I'm really grateful.  What a swell bunch of folk.
