Ho'opi'i Falls in Wailua earlier this year shows plenty of water despite a growing trend in Hawaii and globally. In the past 10 years rainfall totals are down by 23% at Princeville weather station when compared to their 94 year history of precipitation data. The Poipu Station (over by the Pointe at Poipu) has seen a 20% decrease when compared to its 60+ years history of recorded data.
The news today that Rainbow Falls in Hilo has dried up speaks to the alarming drought trend that started a few years ago on the southern portion of the State.

Can we afford NOT to increase our efforts to promote wind and solar over fossil fuels? Living on an island where we see in real time increased beach erosion due to higher ocean levels, storms more fierce than in previous years. Droughts across the state of Hawaii that we rarely experienced in the past thirty years of living here as an agronomist and now as a rancher.

If only renewable sources of energy could receive a significant portion of the fossil fuel subsidy.

Thank you +Linda Sherman for this great post by +Mack Collier. As I continue to slog to find relevant weekly topics that will prove of interest to visitors to Kauai Hawaii. I oft wonder is there a mathematical algo that will see my posts even if there are few eyes finding them. Now there is hope and it is inspirational.

I love their hamburgers, they are the best on the island bar none. Try their tempura fried dill pickles with the burger. You will be a convert. Tortilla Republic is one of our top restaurants in Poipu. We recently wrote a post on our website. We always recommend this eatery to guests at our vacation rentals and we have always heard "Thank You" for the recommendation.

My favorite is ... Belgian chocolate and the Salt Pond gelati. I love the way the Salt Pond gelato plays in my palate after a meal. I count myself as one of the fortunate firsts who have tasted Papalani Gelato's signature creation for Tortilla Republic Grill and Margarita Bar (located in Kukuiula Village). A Mexican chocolate gelato with a mild chili pepper fusion that warms the back of your throat and takes the chocolate notes to a new plateau.
