Woot! Successfully migrated a Windows 8 Pro install from a 1 TB HDD to a 60 GB SSD. Time to do one last round of backups, and then I gotta organize, sanitize and remount the 6 HDD's I now have lying around. Not a bad task for a sick day :-)

Well, Windows 7 had its first hiccup on the MacBook Air. Best guess is it was a result of having Dropbox on the OS X side access the Dropbox directories in the Windows file system via Paragon's NTFS drivers for Mac. CHKDSK appears to have solved the problem without any help from me. Cool!

For those keeping track, Mac OS X has now crapped out on me twice on the same MacBook Air. Windows 7 (via bootcamp) has been rock solid.

Bootcamp doesn't support more than two partitions for Mac and Windows. There is at least one way to triple boot, but it's really unsupported, and more than I want to mess with on my primary machine. I have booted from linux thumbdrives without a problem.

The Air is a pretty sweet laptop. The keyboard definitely isn't optimized for Windows, and the battery life takes a bit of a hit, but it's still twice what my old work Dell got for battery life. What do you mean, "What do you do for hardware?" I keep my video collection on an external drive, but everything else is on the local SSD (which is awesome, btw). I also have an external USB DVD drive, which I've used on a handful of occasions to install software from a disc. I don't even bother to keep it in my bag, though.

I've used the Mac partition several times, and I really like how apple implements gestures accross the OS. The Finder drives me nuts, though, as does installing and uninstalling software - although I'll admit a large part of that is probably due to being used to Windows before I ever used a Mac. I keep the Mac partition around because I want to write an iPhone app "someday".

Twenty-four hours after beginning, I've learned a lot about file systems, disk partitions, and the unholy magic of getting Windows and Mac OS installed on the same disk. All for the sake of re-allocating 50 GBs from my Mac partition to my Windows partition.

The doctors were great, figured out my problems right away. The front desk staff was really over-worked. They could use another person or updated computer systems to speed things up. But the service was worth the wait in the front office.

We hired Whatcom Sound to DJ our wedding on Camano Island. They did a fantastic job with minimal supervision, and at a lower cost than other places we researched. Definitely recommend them!

The staff seemed well-meaning, but the service was pretty poor. No other customers in the store, and it took 15 minutes to send a 4 page fax. Didn't find out what the fax would cost til it was sent - my mistake - $2 for the first page, and $1 for each page thereafter. $5 for a 4 page fax! Well, if that's the price, that's the price. But they charged me 20% extra by mistake, and then spent five minutes to refund me a dollar. Presumably they do better with larger business, but if you need to send a fax, I'd go somewhere else.
