Do you reckon Maschine 2.1 will play nicely with a 256 GB i5 Surface Pro 3? Very tempted.

Ahh, cool. Yeah, I haven't updated anything to maschine 2.1, but I imagine it doesn't take too much more processing power. The surface 3 looks great. A solid investment. Windows 8.1 was really brilliant for a tablet. I think it's way better than ios... I'm glad windows is still pushing this product. I actually still have a surface RT (not for writing music though).

Sorry to spam, but if anyone's interested, I'm selling my LTE Chromebook for $900 (delivery included) in the US. Just a heads up before it goes on eBay. It's in excellent condition bar a scuff mark on the inside of the base. No 1 TB space; might be able to transfer the in-air WiFi and Verizon LTE though?

Editing a codebase on a remote server from Chrome OS
Here's a quick post about how your Chrome OS device, in developer mode, can edit a codebase on a remote (e.g. university, personal) server as if the code were local. And you don't need to install Crouton or any Linux partition-esque things to do so. This al...

Hi all. So I'm starting to wonder if I've got a dodgy 64 GB Pixel or something. I've powerwashed, reinstalled Chrome OS, been on beta and stable, and always seen horrible lag on Gmail, Google Music, Google Maps, G+, etc. And it gets bloody hot (I know this is common). And Google Music can't play back music without crackling if you do anything else apart from the music (just starred an issue about this, apparently it was 'fixed' in November...).

Everyone else talks of fast, silky-smooth operation. I am increasingly frustrated this was a $1500 machine at which point you look at the MacBook Pro and sigh. I do love the Pixel when it's good... but when it's bad...

I love my Pixel for work, especially with its Crouton to cover all bases. But to create and play music, it's a sad waste of resources. My aging PC laptop is currently bearing the responibility of a) running a "DAW" to record song ideas, and b) running "soft synths" that let me plug a MIDI keyboard into the laptop. The quality soft synths are what demands computer horsepower. Almost all companies limit their music software to PC and Mac. Also, you need very little latency between keyboard presses and sound generation to play soft synths.

So I'd like to prompt a discussion to solve this. Here are all my brainstorming ideas for how to harness the Pixel's power for music-making (with its i5 core):

1) Run WINE on my crouton's Ubuntu and have access to Windows programs. Con: WINE will have latency issues and general complexities
2) There are a few music applications for Ubuntu etc, but extremely sparse compared to the PC/Mac arena. Running Portal in Steam on Linux natively shows what power there is there, unfortunately almost untouched by music software companies.
3) Dual boot Mac OS or Windows 8 with some crazy hackery; not even sure if this yields a usage result, or if it's just proof of concept...
4) Write HTML code that will allow me to plug a keyboard into a Chromebook, that pipes MIDI input into a packaged app, that runs virtual/soft instruments. Con: most difficult option and perhaps impossible right now regarding MIDI....?

Ubuntu studio is one I haven't tried yet. Mainly there's not the variety and strength on Linux - not even for paid stuff.

I'm being told that it might be best to use "Lite Mode" while using Google Maps on my Pixel. Surely not? This is the most powerful laptop that runs Google's own OS and browser!

Won't they be obsolete by the time the price drops to $500? You would be something better, faster, cheaper at some point in the future.

Weird - the Pixel has been skipped over twice in a row now for Stable channel updates. Wonder what's going on.
