Behind an expanse of storefront glass stands a coveted golf club, artwork, jewelry, fabrics, furniture — all displayed to attract consumers. The downside: That glass is ALL that stands between these products and potential theft, fading, and business continuity. If that glass remains unprotected, customers, employees and tenants may suffer the discomfort of solar heat gain in warmer months, heat loss in colder months and nuisance glare all-year long. Retailers may suffer revenue loss as well with increased utilities and HVAC maintenance expenses. Buildings that are relatively unprotected and thus vulnerable to attack are considered “soft targets” and are vulnerable to terrorist groups and lone-wolf attackers. An unfortunate reality, devastating current events have advanced the discussion of hardening soft targets, and consequently have prioritized the improvement of building safety and security infrastructure.

Glass entrance doors and windows are the Achilles’ heels of all buildings. Left unprotected, they can potentially shatter and disperse dangerous shards that can cause injuries and damage. Additionally, an intruder can gain access through an unprotected window or glass entryway. Balancing priorities with budgetary concerns is a challenge, however, the cost of ignoring weak links in infrastructure can be catastrophic. Window film retrofits provide an economical solution compared to window replacement. Read more at: http://americanwindowfilm.com/hardening-soft-targets-and-improving-interior-climate-with-window-film

- by Peter Davey

Advancements in window film technologies have increased dramatically and have improved the quality of our lives. American Window Film, Inc. receives 3M Dealer of the Year Award - Northeast USA and is prepared to brighten your day with 3M™ Daylight Redirecting Film.

American Window Film, Inc.'s team returned from the 2017 3M Prestige Dealer Conference held in Baltimore, February 7, holding the 2016 3M Dealer of the Year Award for the Northeast USA Region. The conference was attended by American Window Film's President, Peter Davey; Vice President Sales, James Maloof ; Cape Cod Sales Representative, Bart Rubin and Rhode Island Sales Representative, Dana Savoie. Members of 3M Company's St. Paul, MN, group and the Northeast region's 3M window film distributor, Energy Products Distribution, presented their visions and plans for 2017.

Fueled with aggressive goals and recently launched window film products, Peter Davey and staff hit the pavement running upon their return to their Foxboro-Boston, MA, location. According to Davey, "3M Company's Daylight Redirecting film was emphasized at the 3M conference and it's generating a lot of interest in the field. The product has been engineered to redirect sunlight and subsequently, reduces dependence upon artificial lighting. The film's associated benefits derived from increased natural light are significant." 3M™ Scotchshield™ Ultra Series Window Films
Engineered for a Wider Margin of Safety

It's Fall and the Northeast is "shoring up" buildings for harsh winter weather and "hunkering down" for football season. Rituals to keep luck on our team's side will begin. However, common sense and fiscal responsibility are clearly evident, as building safety and security are not left to chance. Whether catastrophic events including windstorms, bomb blasts, vandalism and break-ins or a simple misdirected football -- glass breakage can cause damage, injury and disruption. A quality, professionally installed security film holds glass in place, mitigating the destruction caused by flying glass shards and exposure to the elements and vandalism. September has arrived brilliantly! Autumn leaves, orange school buses and chill winds whisper winter's approach. Northeast school administrators hunker down with security and energy efficiency plans for their facilities -- remaining mindful of safety first, yet tempered with fiscal responsibility. Undoubtedly an indicator of our collective mindset for mitigation and conservation, security and insulating window films have steadily increased in demand and have proven their worth in the field. They are effective, efficient and far less costly than window replacement. A quick, clean, professional installation creates little disruption to business-as-usual.
