Spectacular service, hip music, sharp decor, knowledgable staff, good sake selection and a fine Japanese steak. Best meal I've had in Minneapolis this trip.

I had heard good things about Fuji Ya and recently reserved the private room for a friends birthday party. The menu while expensive, is not unreasonable given the quality and comparable to other sushi establishments in the area. Ordered Calamari and Pot Stickers to start, both were great. Sushi was above average as well but the service turned out to be horrible. We did have a large party, which can be confusing, but we were on the ball when telling him how to split the check and tried to be as helpful as possible for the guy. It literally took an hour and fifteen minutes from the time we asked for the check and when we were able to leave the restaurant. The management had him waiting on other tables during this time instead of focusing on our group of 20. The server knew he was making 18% gratuity so it seems obvious he was in no rush to give quality customer service. We asked to speak to a manager (since we didn't see the guy for 45 minutes at least when the server came back and we find the checks horribly screwed up) and his response was basically "it takes a long time to split up a large check, it is just how it is". We even over heard the bartender make a remark about how bad our server was. I hope an establishment would address these issues but even the manager didn't seem to care. Its really too bad as the food is good overall but I won't be coming here again and I do not suggest getting a private room if you are looking for a place for a large group.

I've been a regular at Fuji Ya for...jeez, 5 years now? I go here for special's worth the money. Tip, come here at lunch to escape the crowd and save money on entrees, it's 50% cheaper. I come here for the sushi (excellent, fresh) and ramen (oh my god heavenly). I've never had anything here I didn't like. Actually, scratch that, all of their "girly drinks" taste like cough syrup to me. Gross. So I skip the drinks, but otherwise the food and service is great!

We come here every Wed for the ramen, which is by far the most authentic shoyu (and recently tonkotsu) ramen I have found in the cities. The broth, egg and chashu are perfect (the noodles are great too) and would be at home in any good ramen joint in tokyo. If you've never had proper ramen google for some pictures and then come to Fuji-Ya on Wed... it's pretty much the ideal food for the long winter. Sushi is quite good (although I've rarely had it) and the atmosphere in this place is very mellow and relaxed... there is no tacky neon and cheesy decorations. Service is usually very good with the exception of one guy.

Probably the best sushi I have had in the Twin Cities, and I have been to many sushi establishments! The dynamite roll was amazing and they have a great happy hour - highly recommended!

My stepdaughter was visiting from Chicago, and I took her to the Lake Street location for happy hour sushi last night. She has a sushi roll, and I went for the Nigiri. We had nothing else afterwards. Then, about 2 AM, she woke up vomiting, and has been sick and unable to hold any food or liquids since. I will never return to Fuj Ya (either location) and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of our experience (including any review pages I encounter). As I type this, she is still in bad shape (the following night, 9:00).
