There are many ways of doing this:
Send home regular letters (or even informal emails or texts) about the topic you are covering. Include ideas for home activities. Oxford Parents give parents simple, effective advice on supporting their children’s classroom language learning at home.
Invite parents for informal chats at regular intervals.
Give parents simple guidance documents that outline when and where it is helpful to use English at home. Encourage them to foster a positive and fun attitude when using English. Give them advice on when it is not helpful – such as when the children are tired or distracted

In today's lesson, we are going to be learning some important telephone expressions. I know a lot of students get very scared when they have to talk on the phone, and it's understandable. Here are some expressions that can make telephone conversations easier.

 The past continuous tense uses:
was/were + (verb) + ing
was eating or were eating

It is used to show something that happened in the past and continued for a while. For example:

From 8:00 to 8:30 I was taking a bath.

We use the past continuous tense with the simple past tense when we want to show that one thing happened in the middle of another thing.

I was taking a bath and the telephone rang.

During a period of time (8:00-8:30) I was taking a bath. At one time (let's say 8:17) someone called on the telephone.

Make a sentence using the words given. Use the past continuous for things that happened over a period of time and the simple past for things that happened a one time. The first one has been done for you.

It's tough enough to get into one Ivy League school. But all eight?
That's what happened to Kwasi Enin, a student at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y., this week. The 17-year-old received acceptance letters from Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale.
So where will he end up? Enin told Newsday he's already leaning toward Yale.
"They seem to embody all the kinds of things I want in a college," he said. "The family. The wonderful education. The amazing diverse students. Financial aid as well."
