"Follow your heart," "Trust your heart," "God knows my heart," is all just humanistic new age apostate hogwash

Proverbs 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

It is apparent from the verse that if a man is going to “walk wisely,” he can NOT “trust in his own heart” (see Proverbs 3:5). If this statement is true (and we accept it to be infallible), the whole history of man is the history of a fallen creation—self deluded, self deceived, self hypnotized, and self justifying, trusting his feelings, intuitions, impulses, motives, intentions, and ideas, instead of God’s revelation. The man who “walks wisely” is clearly the man of Ecclesiastes 10:12, 12:9, 11; Jeremiah 9:12–23; Psalms 119:98; and Matthew 7:24. Men like Huxley, Marx, Lyell, Paley, Haeckel, Bernard Shaw, Einstein, Freud, Kinsey, Menninger, Von Braun, Darwin, Hegel, Kant, Spinoza, and Voltaire are not to be found in the latter part of the verse: all of them trusted in their own hearts. No one who ever read the Harvard Five Foot Shelf of Classics would ever be deceived into thinking that the authors were “walking wisely.” They all trusted their own hearts, their own thoughts, their own ability, their own talent, and their own cleverness. They were competitors with the Holy Spirit in presenting “truth” and “truths.” This is apparent in every line of their philosophies and ideologies. They strongly resemble the “commentaries” written by the men we have referred to many times in this Bible Believer’s Commentary. One may remark justly that the outstanding thing about all of them, in any age, in any country, in any situation, under any condition, is an unshakable faith in man’s mental ability, and a deep seated, tenacious antagonism to the words of the Living God.

When a man trusts in his own heart, he is a fool because:

1. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9).

2. The imaginations of the heart can be evil continually (Gen. 8:21).

3. Thirteen abominations proceed from the heart and defile the man (Mark 7:2 1).

4. The natural heart is no good; a new one is needed (Ezek. 36:26).

5. The heart is “far from God” (Mark 7:6).

For those intellectual sophists who wish to argue about the organ itself and the figurative meaning of the word, we have already prepared the comments under 4:23 and 19:21.

The “heart” in its natural condition:

1. Refuses to believe that men are getting worse with the passing of time.

2. Refuses to believe that God would allow any man to burn forever in a lake of fire.

3. Refuses to believe the Bible is a supernatural book.

4. Refuses to believe that a blood atonement is necessary to justify a sinner.

5. Refuses to believe that a personal God personally created a man, a woman, a race, a book, a Saviour, and a personal adversary—the Devil.

The natural heart humanizes God, deifies man, rationalizes sin, negates the Bible, ignores judgment, justifies itself, smiles at the Devil, and rejects anything distasteful (negative) to its own opinions, ideas, beliefs, feelings, and plans.

A man who trusts in “feeling” for salvation is a fool, according to the text before us. A man who joins the Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Church of Christ, the Seventh day Adventists, the Bahaists, the Unitarian Church, or Unity Church without digging up their dead carcases and examining the bones of their theology is a fool. A man who accepts what a priest says about the “Mass” or “Mary” simply because his heart assents to it is a fool. A man who believes that Hell is the grave, or that God was “Adam,” or that Christ was “a” god, or that Joe Smith (1805–1844) could read and write intelligibly, or that Mary Baker Eddy (1879) was an honest woman, or that “the Bab” was sane, without checking every one of them out, thoroughly, with the word of God, is a FOOL.

People say: “Well, I’m satisfied with my religion.” (So is the Devil.) Folks say: “Well, it gives me a good feeling.” (You can get a better one from heroin.) They say: “Well, you got your belief and I have mine.” (And God has His!) And they say: “Well, I enjoy it, even if you don’t look at it the way I do.” (So does a drunk.) If you trust in your own heart or man’s (Jer. 17:9), you are a FOOL.

If I hollered down the street, “Hey, you Fool! Com’ere!” you would not expect Einstein or William Buckley to turn around, would you? But maybe God would. “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool”

I have very little sympathy for an individual who would troll Christian forums mocking God and belittling believers while claiming to have Christianity shoved down their throat.

This is Quincy and Charlie, two students I met at UNH today. Quincy identified herself to me as "Pansexual." Charlie is a biological female who is transitioning to be a male. The first thing they both wanted to know was if I hated them. I told them that of course I don't hate them. We chatted for nearly half an hour about God, but mostly on sexuality. They really believe that Christians hate them and want to harm them. I assured them that should never be the case. They're made in God's image and I care for them so much and that's why I was out there, to warn them and others about the wrath of God and His amazing loving gospel. Both Quincy and Charlie warmed up considerably, and we were very friendly. I don't think they believe all Christians hate them anymore. And, as you can see in the photo, they both took gospel booklets. Jesus came to save sinners, in whatever form that sin comes in. I believe a wall was broken down between this Born-Again Christian and two members of the LGBTQA+ community, and I ask you to pray that Quincy and Charlie get saved. Afterall, God saves heterosexuals and non-heterosexuals the same way: repentance and faith. I'm so glad to have met these two on campus today.
