Portrait of Robert Orton, the 10th sheriff of Santa Cruz County. He was first elected sheriff in 1871, and held the office for eight years. Before being elected, he was a miller in the Watsonville/Corralitos area. After his tenure as sheriff, he bought a grist mill in San Luis Obispo and moved his family there.
