Personally I object to the use of the word "block" as synonymous with "objection" and this entry explains some of the reasons why. What is a block? This is not a facetious question. If this is the word people want to use, what does it mean? From the accounts on the Cohousing-L email discussion ...

“The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”

September 26-28, 2014

Cohousing is an idyllic community concept and housing development strategy, but after the doors open, real life kicks in with real life issues, real life personalities and real life conflicts and their resolution.

This conference brings together a diverse program that will help you understand “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of living in community and provide you and your neighbors with tools to work within your unique community environment.

The conference weekend will be packed with useful information with plenty of time to network and ask questions. The conference will be held at three North Boulder cohousing communities - Nomad, Silver Sage Village and Washington Village. We reserve the right to tweak the program.

This movie coming just after Valentine's Day could be a great opportunity to debunk common myths about Intentional Communities & Cohousing. Shall we start organizing a protest campaign?

Sometimes, we'd even have standing agreements within our neighborhoods that it was okay to borrow things without asking. Sharing came naturally because it just made good sense. It's like that Miranda Lambert song: "Hey, whatever happened to waiting your turn, doing it all by hand, 'ca...

From Alice Alexander, our Executive Director:

With cohousing communities taking hold in the early 1990’s, we have produced a generation of “children of cohousing.” These now-young adults benefited greatly from growing up in a cohousing community. We are looking for their stories, their experiences; how they have applied “cohousing lessons” in their 20’s and 30’s. Is there anything profoundly different about their networking and other skills, world views or approaches to life than others of their generation who did not grow up in cohousing? Ideally we could benefit from their participation in the 2015 National Cohousing Conference: The Next Generation.

A nice blog post on Daybreak Cohousing from Portland, Oregon. Some of the comments assume it's like a dorm, rather than a neighborhood with private houses. Feel free to add your thoughts and set the record straight.
