As someone who has loved astronomy all my life, I was sorely disappointed by this film. It is clear the Burger neither likes nor understand science, or what drives scientists to understand the universe and our place in it. He seems to have gone out of his way to make their love of discovery into something pointless and alien. The idea that we cannot get past a certain point in our understanding is totally wrong. A hundred years ago, no one thought they could understand how the sun made heat, and now we've made it to a millionth of a second after the big bang. No one should underestimate our ability to understand more than we do now.
The other thing that bugged me is that Burger totally turned his back on the inspiring beauty of astronomy. The vistas that those telescopes have produced are jaw-droppingly beautiful, and instead we got deserted highways and broken factories and deserted observatories that were obsolete decades ago. My advice is to leave this one on the shelf and watch an episode of Cosmos instead if you really want to understand what science and astronomy are all about.

+Andy Beaton Thanks again for your thoughts on the film. It did have a very anti-scientific/research bias to it and I can understand how that would really offend someone who loves and values science as much as you do. I value it as well ... maybe because I don't know as much about the specifics as you do and seeing all those gigantic telescopes and research labs ... it just seemed to me an awful lot of money is being spent and scientists have gone as far as they can go. Your comments have made me think twice.

ah so you just upgraded the RAM, it bought a brand new mini. I was confused because you posted this the day after the new mini came out! :-)

Spotted Comet Garradd (C2009 P1) tonight. It's an easy find with a telescope, and nice and close to M15, so get out and see it!

I'm pissed at NASA - why couldn't the last shuttle flight take a flight path that takes it over Toronto for just one night?
