Errors / Bugs  -

Hello, I just started using autoCrat, and it's working very well so far. I just ran into a bug that I'm not sure how to fix. As a workaround for not having a "file upload" button, I added a text field where people could paste links to documents or images. In the spreadsheet, the links look fine, but in the merged document, hyphens are being replaced with "%C2%AD" so the links don't work from the merged document. Any ideas for how to fix this? I can just say, no hyphens, but I'm not sure if other characters will have the same problem.

+Jessica Murray Have you figured this out?  Unfortunately AutoCrat's URL rendering is not very robust.  Can you try using an actual hyperlink formula?  I.e. =HYPERLINK().

Street artist JR incorporates archival photos into the decaying ruins of the many abandoned buildings on Ellis Island. It was definitely worth the cost, and supports restoring facilities that were damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

Having served on a Grand Jury, I can tell you that this process is a total waste of time. In a month of service, the grand jury I served on indicted 100% of the cases that came before us.

During the training session, I learned that the United States is the only country to still use Grand Juries; the rest have been replaced with some form of pretrial hearing because they are expensive and time consuming. Essentially, a case brought before a Grand Jury is a trial with only a prosecutor.

Here's an excerpt from the NY Grand Juror's Handbook:
The grand jury is an arm of the court. It is not an agent of the prosecutor or the police.A grand jury does not decide whether or not a person has been proven guilty. That is the trial jury's job. The grand jury decides whether or not a person should be formally charged with a crime or other offense. The grand jury makes that decision based on evidence presented to it by  the prosecutor, who also instructs the grand jury on the law.  The grand jury's decision must be based on the evidence and on the law.

A waste of time in addition to being a way for prosecutors to subvert a fair legal process for members of law enforcement...

Scientists Just Reversed Paralysis How do you repair human nerves?
Is it even possible? Well, the answer to the second question is “Yes,” according to new technology in development at King’s College in London.
The “how” part comes from light. Specifically, blue LED light, which the team says is the vital element to treating debilitating nerve damage for people with paralysis, such as those with motor neuron disease. They’ve discovered that by shining pulses of this blue light onto exposed nerves, it can restore nerve function – and movement – in paralyzed limbs. http://ow.ly/zHxTU
By shining LED light onto stem cells with specially engineered neurons, scientists are able to reverse paralysis.

It looks like they are creating neurons with stem cells and genes that react to light. Pretty interesting!

I usually avoid large crowds in cold weather, but for this I would make an exception. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'll be participating in BikeMS for the 4th time this year. For the past three years, I've ridden on my own behalf, but this year I'll be riding for my friend Jason DaSilva, a talented filmmaker who also has primary progressive MS. Check out his film, When I Walk, which chronicles his experience: http://wheniwalk.com/

If you want to help fund my ride, you can make a donation here:

thanks, puritans.

Even as the CDC now recognizes the decisive benefits from moderate drinking, each such announcement is met by an onslaught of opposition and criticism. Noting that even drinking at non-pathological levels above recommended moderate limits gives you a better chance of a longer life than abstaining draws louder protests still. Yet that’s exactly what the evidence tells us.
The U.S. public health establishment buries overwhelming evidence that abstinence is a cause of heart disease and early death.

Delicious food, quick service. It was very busy when we went, but managed to get a seat after we ordered, despite all the seat vultures trying to claim space while they were still in line.
