It has been exactly 100 years since Albert Einstein presented his theory of general relativity to an audience of scientists on November 25, 1915.

In referencing the death of a friend, Einstein wrote about the impact of spacetime on our lives.  "Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That means nothing. People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."

I love that.

So, these are the 116 images that Carl Sagan sent to space on the Voyager Golden Records for extra terrestrials to find.  Pretty interesting.

If only Isaac Asimov could see us now. There's an old saying that science fiction is really just predicting — or helping prevent — the future.

As early as 2008, a Pennsylvania couple sued Google over their home being pictured on Street View. They argued the value of their home, which they purchased in part for privacy, was diminished. Google was ultimately ordered by a judge to pay the couple $1.

Been reading about panspermia this morning, and it occurred to me that maybe we should be seeding the universe with the makings of life.  We could make small meteorites which contain the materials and send them out travelling in space in the hopes that they eventually impact a planet capable of incubating them into various lifeforms.  Wouldn't that be cool?
If life did arise on Mars, the trek to Earth might not have been that difficult. Modern tests have shown that microbes could survive such a journey on a meteorite, says guest blogger Bill Mesler.

This is exciting...
U.S. scientists say they've produced more energy from a fusion reaction in their fuel source than they put into the fuel, a research milestone.

I've been buying from Tandy for a long time over the internet. Several times they've called me about my order because they thought they might have something that would work better for me or because they had a cheaper price. Bar none, the best customer service I've ever had. I'm excited to actually visit the Charlotte store some day and meet them in person.

I bought from them because they had what I needed. Most people are pretty nice, but one of the owners or managers is incredibly rude and condescending. It was a real "pretty woman" kind of situation. If you plan to buy from them, you need to look and act just like them in order to be treated well. Unfortunately, creativity and youth do not seem to be well received in this establishment. Get your bernina somewhere else if you can. Service guy is great.
