Physical Fitness Program

Enhancing lives through the positive benefits of martial arts since 1996. From our little dragons to our kickboxing adults, The Training Edge of Buffalo, NY is a total program of family fun, fitness and self-defense. For centuries, millions of people have benefited from the teaching of martial arts, a system of self-defense that does not advocate the use of weapons, but instead, uses a philosophy that strengthens the mind and body through self-discipline, fitness and awareness. At The Training Edge, we combine the philosophy of martial arts with the modern approach of Western teaching strategies. We offer a well-balanced program for adults and children that emphasizes positive mental attitude, self-esteem, fitness and integrity.

I highly recommend this school. The instructors at The Training Edge are amazing: kind, respectful, exceptionally skilled, and incredibly encouraging both on and off the mats. They are always looking to improve themselves to bring new skills to their students; many have black belts in multiple martial arts and are second through seventh degrees, demonstrating incredible commitment and dedication to continually learning and improving their skills. All staff here truly care about their students, inspiring them to be better in every aspect of life, not just the martial arts. They work hard to be a positive influence in the area, stepping out in the community to do seminars at local schools and businesses. The Training Edge offers frequent free women's self defense seminars that are open to the entire community, not just people affiliated with the school. They focus on helping people learn to prepare to handle the unthinkable and come out the other side safe. The school focuses mainly on Krav Maga, a practical, fully-usable self-defense system that you don't have to study for years and years before it works. You can learn enough basic principles in a few months to be able to defend yourself, but the classes are so much fun that they keep you coming back! Krav is awesome in that anyone of any age or physical shape can do it. You don't have to be an athlete. In a typical class, I see students ranging from tiny, petite women to large muscular guys, teens on up to 65 to 70 years old, body types running the spectrum from incredibly fit to recovering couch potato. Speaking as one of those recovering couch potatoes whose current fitness goal is to drop about another 125 pounds (yes, I'm a big person who does this and loves every second!) this really is a martial arts system that ANYONE can have success in. I went from someone for whom the word "fitness" was practically an obscenity to someone who gets out on the mats and trains nearly every single day with pure joy because it is fun, interesting, and I love it. The classes are so much fun that they just fly by; the other students are incredibly supportive and we have a blast joking and laughing with one another. It really feels like a huge family. I've made friends there that I hope will be with me always, because I've never found a greater concentration of truly good people anywhere else. Krav Maga is not the only offering; The Training Edge also has a spectacular kids karate program that works not only to teach kids martial arts skills but also develop character and discipline to help students mature into responsible young adults while having fun in a safe, supportive environment. Kids classes are fast-paced and exciting, keeping them engaged and interested. The Training Edge also structures the karate program to integrate parents and teachers, requiring that students demonstrate that they are doing their best both at home and in school before they are allowed to advance in rank. Other programs currently offered at the school include fitness kickboxing, which is an incredible cardio workout, a fairly new muay thai kickboxing curriculum, a kids mixed martial arts program, and numerous specialized seminars. Seminars happen regularly and cover a wide range of topics, anything from sparring to knife and gun defenses, situational awareness, Haganah and CT-707 training, boxing, tactical shooting, how to handle a carjacking, dealing with a busjacking or other hostage-type situation, and other unique subjects. There are also many events offered for kids such as sleepovers, birthday parties, obstacle courses, contests for achievements, Easter egg hunts, and various fun days. There is always something special going on! I can't say enough about how incredible The Training Edge is. Since walking through that door two years ago I've learned so much. I've gained confidence I never thought I'd have. I've learned how not to be a victim. I've learned to walk with my head up because I can do more than I ever dreamed I could. My Training Edge family has been backing me every step of the way.

Do not make the same mistake we made. This school is over rated to say the least. Belts are given away not earned. No martial arts structure. Classes are redundant. Most times children are not working with qualified black belts which you are paying for. The owner is very qualified however, his staff is not in my opinion. Do your homework if you really want to learn the great skills of TRUE Martial Arts.

Amazing instruction. Versatile and never boring. Staff helps everyone. Even see students with disabilities. Every student seems to be treated equally. Friendly and inviting to all body types and ages. You have to truly earn your belts. The kids programs work with teachers and parents to encourage the martial arts in all areas of the kids lives. Love it!
