Paint Out Norwich public 'paint out' on Mousehold Heath, 22 Oct 2015. Tin Can Island TV produced this footage of around 100 artists aged 5-85 gathering on the historic heath (scene of Kett's Rebellion and Peasant's Revolt) to paint en plein air citywide views of Norwich encompassing its castle and cathedral skylines. Famous Norwich School artists John Sell Cotman and John Crome painted from here 2 centuries ago. We created fresh history here with the largest gathering of plein air artists at a UK event.Prizes for the public participants were sponsored by Cass Art. Read more about the event here and register on our site for 2016 events. #Norwich #artists #PaintOut #pleinair

Around 100 artists rose to the challenge to 'paint out' Norwich from historic Mousehold Heath at our public mass art event for all the family outside the Café Britannia. People from aged 5-85 took part including whole families and 3 generations of one artistic family, 2 of whom were also in our main competition.

The light changed frequently adding to the en plein air challenge of painting a changing scene with the distraction of public gaze, press filming, bemused dog-walkers, and kids either rolling on the green hillside or picking up crayons to draw their own young masterpieces.  The attraction of the varied views and inspiration of so many fellow artists of all ages and abilities made the event a resounding success, and one we will no doubt repeat.

The event proved to be a big draw, bringing people not just from Norfolk but several driving 3-4 hours from Kent and Yorkshire just to take part in the public spectacle.

Cass Art were our sponsors for the event, their mission being to "fill this town with artists", the hills were indeed filled with artists of all ages and who gratefully received Cass Art discount vouchers and later next week will also be awarded Cass Art prizes to spend online or at Cass Art stores.

The majority of the Paint Out competition artworks will be displayed alongside the core and nocturne painting events of the last few days at the Cathedral Hostry gallery exhibition show of nearly 200 artworks from Tuesday 27th till Saturday 31st October. The public art from Mousehold Heath will be on show at the OPEN venue (20 Bank Plain, top of London Street, Norwich NR2 4SF). #PON15 #Artists #Norwich #PleinAir

Cass Art are offering to take a student artist under 30 to the next level of their artistic career by offering an additional prize at Paint Out Norwich (Oct 20-22) this year to the best young artist.

The prize, more details of which will be forthcoming, will include free art materials for a year and further opportunities. Cass Art were a sponsor of prizes to young and public entrants at the successful Paint Out Wells Sunrise mass ‘paint out’ in September. The prize is in addition to the chance to win other awards from the £5000 prize pool and the opportunity to have your works displayed and sold at an auction and 5-week exhibition.

Students and artists under 30 are invited to submit to Paint Out Norwich 3 pictures of previous art and are exempt the £30 participation fee. If you are busy in college you can even just enter our new Nocturne – evening painting competition. #Student #Artist #Bursary #PON15

The Paint Out Wells-next-the-Sea 2015 Artist Prize Winners were Lara Cobden (1st), Alfie Carpenter (2nd), Jack Godfrey (3rd) with judges commendations to Susan Mann, Jennifer Sendall, Candide Turner-Bridger, and the Artists Sunrise Prize went to Roy Connelly. In addition, an Exhibition favourite based upon the public vote went to Chris Daynes, an award for "spirit of Plein Air" to John Behm and a community "spirit of Wells-next-the-Sea" to Will Topley.

We congratulate all of them especially as 2 out of the top 3 winners were done in testing plein air conditions with wet and windy weather and the other was completed from the deck of the Albatros.
Paint Out is grateful to the sponsors of these prizes - Hopkins Homes, Archant, Cass Art and to Savills for providing the Auction and Exhibition space.

There is still time to enter and join some of these and other artists in the Paint Out Norwich 20-22 October competition. #POW15 #Wells #Norfolk #PleinAir
