Overnight tonight (Wednesday night, Thursday morning) around 05:42 UTC (1:42 am Eastern Time) an asteroid the size of a house comes damn close to Earth, returning after it's first detected near miss in 2012. The return allowed its orbit to be calculated better, well enough to determine it won't hit the planet in 2050. http://2012tc4.astro.umd.edu/2012TC4_orbit.shtml

A connection from Chicago through Columbus to Pittsburgh is one of the final possibilities for a +Hyperloop One route which could provide transportation between the two cities in under an hour.
A Hyperloop connecting Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Chicago would transform the movement of goods and people in the Midwest, and leapfrog these communities into the next century. There is vast untapped economic potential in the region, as there is currently no direct freight or passenger rail connection along the corridor.

Another comment about the Red Cross' response to the hurricanes, besides the not-so-public ones in comments on a previous post: https://plus.google.com/+RobertSimpson

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the recent controversy* regarding the Red Cross not being able to say how much of donor contributions go to helping victims of #HurricaneHarvey (other than that 25% goes to overhead) and that contributions go into a general fund that is used for advertising (Disney/ABC) and other Red Cross services in general, such as selling blood to hospitals, it has been brought to my attention that there are other organizations which made up of all volunteers trying to provide aid directly and specifically to those victims. The one that was mentioned to me was UMCOR Disaster Response http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Programs/Disaster-Response which, due in part to their "Flood of Volunteers" and the fact that contributions can be designated for a specific project, says 100% of contributor's donations go directly to helping disaster victims and those designated Advance #901670 go specifically to helping the victims of #Harvey.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* I understand the position of those who say that the Red Cross does a lot of good. The issue is regarding the percentage of contributions designated for this specific disaster actually reaching flood victims, particularly via the #Harvey hashtag and HARVEY text message that have been so heavily advertised via Disney and ABC programming such as #TheVoice.
