Here's a sample from my post for The Affordances & Limitations of Letter Grades assignment, I would love to hear comments:)

I started the day with a challenge. Find a syllabus to use for my badge #2 assignment in the #Beyondlettergrades Mooc. I wasn't about to settle for any plain, boring, or simple syllabus. No, I wanted something different, interesting, difficult even. I wasn't just trying to pocket the badge, I wanted to really learn something. Luckily, my search paid off right away.

I just went over the second section of  Learning Beyond Letter Grades- The Affordances and Limitations of Letter Grades, and my first thought is: Why can't an assessment be designed that would reflect the students mastery of the subject, their ability to complete an exercise, solve a problem, or whatever would meet the objective? There would be no real reason to accumulate points or letter grades taking quiz's or doing assignments. Those exercises could still be in place for practice but the ultimate goal would be to show what they know at the end. The final assessment would be quite complex, but if it is broken up in to section the student could take a stab it parts of it whenever they were ready. This would allow them to move at their own pace and not be forced to only take a linear path to completion..
Just my first few thoughts. Anyone else think this way? Or Disagree?

Hello,
I saw this class on the Connected educator month site. I'm not a traditional teacher, but as an Instructional Technologist I'm always looking for ways to improve online learning and increase effective use of technology in the classroom.
This class seems to be a perfect way to accomplish both of my goals.
If anyone wants to skip ahead in this class, here is our guide Bernard Bull's excellent post on 5 Common Reasons for the Importance of Letter Grades. I look forward to learning more.

Hello #clmooc -ers here is my intro. I made it while participating in #etmooc  but it seems to fit perfectly here. I want to be a maker, and not just a lurker or a consumer. So i am going to be pressing hard to find time to create and participate. Look forward to seeing you out on the web.  http://thomasokon.wordpress.com
