The Conundrum of Growth

As we allow ourselves, our hearts and our circle of compassion to grow and expand in order to encompass more of the world and more people, we can be faced with a conundrum. During the early stages of personal growth we often feel the need to cut ties to those strained, artificial, judgmental, distrustful or negative and vexatious people around us. This is natural and it is certainly much easier to support, grow and expand the most divine and loving aspects of yourself when you are surrounded by souls that feel the same way.

But therein lies the conundrum. If we truly intend to expand our circle of compassion for all life and all people, should we not be able to include those artificial, judgmental, distrustful or negative and vexatious people as well? How truly compassionate are we if we cut people out of our lives? How loving and compassionate are we if turn away those who may need selfless and nonjudgmental love and acceptance the most?

Over the years and even recently, I have cut ties with people whom I felt I did not share the same moral values, perspectives on life or happiness, trust or other principles which are important to me. But at the same time I felt like I was failing my own personal growth and should be able to accept and accommodate everyone within my growing circle of compassion.

Do other's experience this, or wonder about this? If so how have you resolved this spiritual and moral conundrum?

These killer brownies take about 40mins to get to the table but certainly won't last 40mins once delivered (unless you make a mountains worth). Kids live the fact that they are thick and fudge with 'bits' stuck on the top!
