Don't Cry
How many times have you said this to someone or had someone say it to you?  I have so many vivid memories of my mom telling me not to cry, or not to worry when I was a little one. Now that I am a psychotherapist, my heart skips a little beat each time I hea...

Hi Everyone!

TRU has an amazing intern starting in a couple of weeks, and so we will be again able to offer low fee counseling to the community!

I first met Samantha Heuwagen a year ago as my daughter's preschool teacher at her progressive, play-based preschool, Turning Sun. At the time, she had just started the MFT program at Mercer. She and Ellie formed an AMAZING bond over the school year; I was so impressed with her. So, naturally when she asked if she could intern at TRU, I said a resounding YES!

Here is some info about Samantha. If you have any folks looking for lower fee services, please don't hesitate to have them call me: 404-429-2505. I would love to schedule them with Samantha, or with anyone else in my office who may be able to help.

Best,
Katie

Samantha is currently attending Mercer University in Atlanta to obtain her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with the goal of becoming an LMFT. Samantha holds a Master’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature. She is bilingual with fluency in both English and Spanish.

Samantha became interested in the therapy field through her work as a sex educator at the University of South Florida. She enjoyed teaching but quickly realized her one on one conversations with her students proved to be more powerful outside of the classroom. She began to look for a new direction in her field and discovered the possibility of creating change through counseling. This began her passion for therapeutic change.

Samantha enjoys creating a deep and meaningful connection to her clients, which she believes helps facilitate their growth towards a healthy and happy lifestyle. She follows the work of Virginia Satir but also brings her sense of humor and zest for life into the therapy room.

Samantha is also an avid writer and you can find her blogging at AFeministLife.tumblr.com and on Twitter @AFeministLife.
