Open Hack Night  -

The Holidays are over, and its the First Tuesday of 2016!
Come out to the makerspace tonight and bring some of those new devices you received to show everyone how they work. Or if you have questions about how to assemble that new toy bring it in and we can call take a look!
Its also a great time to brush up on your Arduino coding so your ready for our next class on January 16th!

Howdy all - Question for some of you that have come out to visit on a hack night but who don't come regularly.

What can we do to improve our hack nights?  Is it just a bad day of the week for you or is there some other reasons?

Thanks!

Thats a good idea Nathan, wonder which 'web' site would work best, as we use this along with FB and main webpage?

That soldering station is a good deal, considering it costs 135 on Aven's retail site.

$30 Raspi B2 is pretty sweet too!!

Had another nice hack night, Dave S. worked on his door bell project and its nearly ready for prime time!  Expect to see a sign at the door now that asks you to 'knock three times' and some one will be down to get you shortly :)

I was working on rebuilding my daughters laptop, while Dave W. worked on a portable soldering work table.

I ended up having to leave early but what did everyone else work on?

I have been going to Merrymans for a few years and generally was pleased with their service. About 13 months ago I had the timing belt replaced on my Honda Odyssey, as it was around the 100K mileage. Recently my engine was making a strange noise so I returned to Merrymans. I was told that the Timing belt tensioner was bad and needed to be replaced. I asked if it was common to not replace the tensioner with the timing belt and their reply was "we always replace the tensioner with the timing belt, but our records don't show we charged you for it, so we weren't able to get the part under warranty. We will have to charge you for it." I don't know the truth of this exchange, but I can't find a way were it doesn't sound bad. Auto repair businesses have a bad reputation for being untrustworthy and this type of interaction is why. I wont be returning to Merrymans after this.

I have shopped a few times at this location, specifically for electronics supplies, resistors, connectors, solder etc. Its really nice to know that there is a place near by that has all this, not to mention a fair amount of Arduino's and shields! Great place for hobby electronics, robotics and Makers!
