How Do You Know If Your Child Breaks a Bone?

The only way to tell for sure if a bone is broken (unless you can see the break in an open fracture) is to have your doctor order an X-ray. You may suspect a fracture if your child complains of pain, refuses to walk on that leg or use that arm, and if you notice swelling and bruising. Because prompt treatment is important in the case of growth plate fractures, don't hesitate to see your doctor as soon as you suspect a break.

Whether you're about to see your aesthetic specialist or your primary care physician, it's important to be ready for the questions they might ask. Write down medications you have taken, illnesses you might have gotten, or tests and screenings you had in the past few months. Remember to be honest in answering their questions so they can better help you!

Is a Knee Arthroscopy a Diagnostic Tool or a Treatment?

Both! Thanks to the camera (which is called an arthroscope), your orthopedic surgeon can look inside your knee and determine the cause of your symptoms. Depending on the cause of your pain, your doctor may even be able to treat your knee during this time. Small tools are inserted into your knee through a small incision, making the knee arthroscopy both diagnostic and a method for correcting knee problems.

The Do's and Don'ts of Taking Care of Your Child's Cast
(http://ow.ly/t7n730neTmK)

If your child complains of itchy skin under his cast, he's not alone. However, it's important to remind your child not to use pencils or rulers to scratch the area. These items can get stuck inside the cast, and they can also increase the risk of scratching the skin and causing an infection. The next time your child complains of itching, try this trick instead. Turn your hair dryer on low and cool; then aim it inside the cast for just a second or two.
