Couldn't Legolas be doing Compressed Sensing in his head (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressed_sensing)?

basically cameras can take samples of a diffused image and through some knarly algorithms recreate the scene that generated said diffusion.

3 days in to using a macbook and I would rather be writing code with a pen a paper.  At least then I wouldn't hit the end key and lose my place 25 times an hour.

Amusing, but creepy to be looking at other people's photos.  I must remember never to point in a photo for the internet.

That game is kinda fun I gotta admit...
UW News (WA) University of Washington researchers recently completed a study that examined Foldit players' strategies and compared them to the best-known scientist-developed methods for protein folding. "Once we looked at the variety and creativity of these recipes, we were shocked to find state-of-the-art algorithms," says Center for Game Science director Zoran Popovic. The researchers studied the most effective formal algorithms the players use...

Also, when the lawyers ask if you have "any beliefs that might prevent you from making a decision based strictly on the law" and you say "YES!" then they will remove you from the running, but if enough people say yes then the court will be unable to find a jury and the case will be dropped due to not having enough jurors.

Just finished reading Wool (1-5 Omnibus edition) and the subsequent prequel First Shift by Hugh Howey.  Wow what a series.  I recommend you all read it (if you're the reading type).  For the love of all that is holy in this world do not read First Shift before you've read wool.  But do read them.

Wool is set in a post apocalyptic underground self sustaining city, called a 'silo' where what remains of humanity struggle to survive.  I really can't say more without ruining one part or another so I'll just leave it at that.

You can buy each wool book for $0.99 as kindle ebooks, except I believe 5 is more expensive, but its at least 3 times as long as the first book.  I bought 1-5 in one big ebook for $5.99.  Worth. Every. Penny.

Save mah cloves! They already outlawed flavored cigarettes, and so Djarum started making their smokes with tobacco paper instead. This classified them as "little cigars" as far as the legislation was concerned, effectively dodging the bullet on that one.
Now the rumor is that the FDA wants to outlaw all flavored cigars as well.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has publicly declared their intent to federally regulate cigars on numerous occasions; the implications of this will be disastrous!
