Cats on ladder
The classical problem goes: A ladder is standing against a wall. A cat sits on one the steps of the ladder. As the ladder slides down, the cat remains seated (!). Describe the trajectory of the cat!
A modern version is to skip the wall, skip the ground, and skip conventional gravity. And to ask for the shape traced out by the ladder (it’s an astroid
). Actually it’s not modern at all, it’s a computer-induced renaissance of classical mathematics.
Computers don’t dumb down #education , standardized tests do.
