One of my fondest memories of the early days of bOING bOING (the print zine) was handing a bOING bOING Kata Sutra T-Shirt (no longer available but you can see it here) to board game designer Steve Jackson at ArmadilloCon in Austin, TX. I think it was 1991 or 1992. He took it and put it on while we were standing in the hallway. Today I found out that Steve is making a re-issue of Ogre, the first board game he ever designed in 1977. OK, on the one hand, that does look like a box full of awesome. On the other hand, part of my nostalgia for the old SJG games is about the pocket-box (or ziploc bag), and how they were the games within my price range at ~12 years old. So the idea of a $100 version which comes in a box which looks to be half Steve Jackson's size doesn't work for me personally.

Except for when I look at the 3D Ogre and GEV models. Then I'm back to the first hand... box full of awesome.
Yeah. I'm going to have to take a miss on this one for cost reasons. But, I'm looking forward to the re-release of the pocket edition in about a year's time... :)
