A strained SCM (sternocleidomastoid) muscle may cause headaches, especially at the muscle's attachment point at the base of your skull. You may feel a dull pain along the path of the injury, accompanied by sharp pain when turning or tilting your head. Stiffness, muscle fatigue and difficulty holding your head upright may also occur. Wearing a neck brace supports the weight of your head, temporarily relieving the stress on your SCM. Pain and stiffness can disrupt your sleep, which can lead to irritability, fatigue, memory problems and difficulty concentrating. You may also try sleeping on your back with a rolled towel under your neck instead of a pillow to support the natural curve at the base of your skull.

Trigger points or tightness in this muscle may also refer pain in the face, head or forehead region , ringing in your ears, dizziness and blurred vision. #PainManagement #Massage #Stretch #Yoga #Pilates #Herbs #Acupuncture #EssentialOils #PhysicalTherapy #Rehab #Athletes #Stress #Relax #Hypertension #Rest #Diet #Nutrition #Roswell #Alpharetta #Woodstock

Common symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) include uncomfortable feelings in the legs and an urge to move the legs.

The sensations can be difficult to describe but include burning, aching, tingling, or crawling. Symptoms are worst while at rest; moving the legs usually provides relief. Symptoms occur mostly in the evening or at night. The leg sensations often cause difficulty falling or staying asleep.

Restless legs syndrome—also called Willis-Ekbom disease—causes significant symptoms in about 2% to 3% of people in the United States. Women are more likely than men to be affected. Most people are at least middle aged or older when they develop symptoms, but children can have restless legs syndrome as well.

Alternative Treatments and Helpful Medications:

Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Stretching, Exercise, Epsom salt soaks, Iron Supplements, Iron enriched foods, Hemp oils, Cannabis oil, Essential oils

Medications to Avoid!
Medications approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for restless legs syndrome include pramipexole, ropinirole, rotigotine patch, and gabapentin enacarbil. Common side effects of many of the medications used to treat restless legs syndrome include worsened RLS, nausea, headaches, stomach pain, anxiety, dry mouth, sweating, diarrhea, constipation sleepiness, dizziness and organ damage! #PainManagement #Massage #AlternativeMedicine #Cannabis #Hemp #Stretch #Yoga #Pilates #Exercise #Acupuncture #IronDeficiency #Nutrition #Diet #EpsomSaltSoak

Scar Tissue occurs as a result of injury , surgery, or repetitive motion. When a muscle, tendon, or ligament is torn (strained or sprained) or nerve is damaged, healing occurs in three stages called the inflammatory response: acute inflammation, repair, and remodeling. In acute inflammation, redness, swelling, heat and pain occur. This phase lasts approximately 72 hours. After the inflammation recedes, repair begins. The damaged tissues heal with adhesions or scar tissue formation rather than the formation of brand new tissue.

That scar tissue can adhere to muscle fibers, preventing them from sliding back and forth properly. It can adhere to connective tissues, limiting the flexibility of a muscle or joint. And it can adhere to nerve cells, leading to carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic back pain, and other conditions.
That tissue can also bind up many layers of muscle and connective tissue, causing varying degrees of limited movement and pain. #PainManagement #Stretch #Massage #Yoga #Pilates #Exercise #PhysicalTherapy #DeepTissueMassage #Athletes #Injuries #Mobility #Diet #Nutrition #Flexibility #PainRelief #JointPain #Muscle

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) refers to a condition in which muscles or tendons in the forearm become overworked or injured and cause pain in the elbow. Tennis elbow specifically causes pain that starts on the outside bump of the elbow, the lateral epicondyle. The forearm muscles that bend the wrist back (the extensors) attach on the lateral epicondyle and are connected by a single tendon. Tendons connect muscles to bone.

Symptoms of tennis elbow include:

Pain or burning in the elbow that slowly intensifies
Pain that worsens when an object is squeezed or lifted
A weak grip or intense pain in the elbow while gripping objects
Pain that gets worse when the wrist is moved (e.g., opening jars, brushing the teeth)

A weak Gluteus medius can cause the TFL muscle (Tensor Fasciae Latae) to put tension on the IT Band, causing hip, lateral thigh and knee pain! #PainManagement #Exercise #Massage #Yoga #Pilates #PhysicalTherapy #Acupuncture #Neuromuscular #AlternativeMedicine #StrengthTraining #StayHealthy #Meditation #Stretch #Roswell #Alpharetta #Woodstock

The TFL Muscle (Tensor Fasciae Latae) is mostly responsible for IT Band Syndrome and Runners Knee. This small muscle when tight, puts a lot of tension on the IT Band that cause pain on the lateral thigh and knee. We were told to stretch the IT band, when in fact its the TFL muscle that needs to be stretched. The IT Band is anchored down on the side of the leg like a strap, with very little movement, which makes it difficult to stretch. It is not a muscle, it's considered to be connective tissues or a long flat tendon, that stabilizes the hip and the knee. Once the TFL is released, then the band can be treated for trigger points. #PainManagement #AlternativeMedicine #Stretch #Massage #PhysicalTherapy #Yoga #Pilates #Acupuncture #Exercise #Neuromuscular #Runners #Athletes #Nutrition #Rest

Plantar fasciitis typically causes a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. The pain is usually the worst with the first few steps after awakening, although it can also be triggered by long periods of standing or rising from sitting. The pain is usually worse after exercise, not during it.
Under normal circumstances, your plantar fascia acts like a shock-absorbing bowstring, supporting the arch in your foot. If tension and stress on that bowstring become too great, small tears can arise in the fascia. #PainManagement #Massage #Yoga #Pilates #FootSoak #Acupuncture #ColdCompress #Diet #Nutrition #Exercise #PhysicalTherapy #Neuromuscular #Stretch #AlternativeMedicine #Roswell #Alpharetta #Woodstock

Do you experience lower back/hip pain, one leg feels shorter than the other or feeling of being unbalanced at the hips? The Quadratus Lumborum also known as the Hip Hiker Muscle, is one of the major causes of this dysfunction. It attaches to the 12 rib, iliac crest and the transverse processes of the lower lumbar. It extends, stabilizes and laterally flexes the lumbar spine. #Stretch #PainManagement #Massage #Yoga #Pilates #PhysicalTherapy #Exercise #Acupuncture #Rehab #Relax #EssentialOils #AlternativeMedicine #Posture #StayHealthy #Roswell #Alpharetta #Woodstock

Piriformis Syndrome is often misdiagnosed as True Sciatica, but the impingement is under the Piriformis Muscle in the buttocks. With Sciatica, the impingement is at the lumber or sacral roots in the lower back, caused by bulging/herniated disks, stenosis and pregnancy. #PainManagement #Piriformis #Sciatica #BackPain #HipPain #Pregnancy #Glutes #NervePain #Massage #PhysicalTherapy #NeuroMuscularTherapy #Yoga #Pilates #Exercise #Stretch #Acupuncture #EpsomSaltBath #Roswell #Alpharetta #Woodstock #NorthFulton
