For those with a sweet tooth.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the high tea salon Fancy Nance, located just around the corner of The Olsen, will be transformed into the Zumbo Dessert Bar, featuring a rotating line up of Melbourne DJs, a cocktail menu and a soft serve machine – part dessert, part disco.

"Australia's senior artist still wakes every morning with a new painting in his mind..."
John Olsen at 88 still exudes his insatiable artist's joie de vivre. It's evident in the welcoming expression on his face and in the work in his busy studio.

In keeping with the season of giving, from now until next Wednesday the 16th of December you can donate unused, unwrapped art supplies to any of our Melbourne hotels where your donation will then be delivered to the children residing at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Ideas of supplies include paint kits, pencils, coloured markers, canvases, colouring in books. Just be sure to not wrap them and that they are brand new.

Deliver to the front desk at The Olsen, The Cullen, The Blackman or The Larwill Studio.

It's a lovely hotel in a great location. I was there for a conference and they really looked after us. Great room and equally good food, plus the connecting bar had great drinks and incredibly friendly staff - and they serve a mean espresso martini!

The customer service was fantastic for this stay which was a mix of business and personal. The staff all greeted me with a warm smile and their customer service was second to none. You can really tell they strive to over deliver. The rooms are trendy and modern with the most comfortable beds to get a home like sleep. I enjoyed drinks and dinner in their bar/restaurant downstairs which also really hit the spot. Conveniently located with plenty of options for food, nightlife etc. made it ideal for my stay. Not too far for a nice stroll to the MCG and sporting precinct which I did on the Friday evening. If I ever need to stay in Melbourne The Olsen will always be 1st choice.

Everything was very seamless. Like umpiring at the footy, when you don't notice the umpires, it's a good game. The staff at the Olsen were very efficient in providing us with their services and were friendly while doing so.

Your hotel along with the The Blackman for me feels like a home away from home. I really appreciate traditional service and I feel it is great value for money. I appreciated the deals your hotel also offers. When visiting Melb there is no other option for a place to stay then your hotel.

Cleaners didn't make our bed and also emptied the contents of one of our bag out all over the bed. Also left the hotel for 20 minutes at top; leaving our food and drinks outside behind the bar. Staff knew we were returning however all of our stuff was not there. I quote it was "discarded" by their manager Sarah who emptied 3 bottles full of vodka, chips, 3 bottles of soda. Only suggesting we go buy more as ours was all in the bin. The manager had the worst attitude towards us and it was obvious the other employees agreed but could not say anything. Rest of the staff were wonderful and the hotel is beautiful.

A very nice hotel at this price point. South Yarra is a good area to stay in, and we got an extra night for free through the world's latest checkout promotion.

I was given Room 220 which opens on to the 'Sun Terrace' which is really the smokers terrace...quite a few puffers out there in the morning. As a non-smoker I found this pretty gross and the fact that they are basically standing right outside my room as I was getting dressed was disconcerting. It's also next to the lifts which you can hear during the night. If I'd arrived earlier and had another night (I was there late and only there one night) I would have asked to be moved. As a woman travelling alone, I was very uncomfortable being in a room that had external doors easily accessed off the terrace. This feels like a security risk to me. I understand someone has to get the worst room in the hotel. Shame it had to be me. I would have discussed this when I left but the staff were busy checking people out and actually didn't ask for my feedback. Sorry this review isn't more positive...you did ask! I'm recommending the hotel based on location and we had some nice drinks and breakfast in the restaurant. But avoid Room 220 and you may have a better experience than me.
