Fiqh of Peace

1. Cooperation and solidarity: “You shall cooperate in matters of righteousness and piety; do not cooperate in matters that are sinful and evil” (Qur’an)

2. Maintaining good relations: “And keep straight the relations between yourselves.”

3. Brotherhood and mutual understanding: “O people, We created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may know one another. The best among you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous. Allah is Omniscient, Cognizant.” (Qur’an) These are the bases of relationships, and not the Hegelian argument that is based on constant struggle in what he described as the “master and slave” theory.

4. Wisdom: “And whoever attains wisdom has attained a great bounty. Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.” (Qur’an)

5. Righteousness: “Never shall We cause the reward of the righteous to perish.” (Qur’an)

6. Justice: “Allah calls for justice, charity, and giving to relatives. And He forbids evil, vice, and transgression. He enlightens you, that you may take heed.”

7. Mercy: “We have not sent you except as mercy from Us towards the whole world.” (Qur’an)

8. Patience: “Those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reard without measure.” (Qur’an)

9. Tolerance: Being open-minded, assuming the best of others, and distinguishing between the various categories of prohibitions and obligations.

10. Love: Love means loving Allah the Almighty, who is the source fo all blessings; loving His Prophet, Allah’s peace and blessings upon him, upon who He bestowed the blessings of mercy and generosity; and loving people and wishing the best for them, including those in tribulation. A hadith states, “None of you is a true believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself,” and according to another narration, “… until he loves for people what he loves for himself.”

11. Dialogue: Muslims established the etiquette of debate because without a culture of dialogue, individuals become selfish and narrow-minded, and society becomes fractured. A hadith also mentions this: “But if you see overwhelming stinginess, desires being followed, this world being preferred (to the Hereafter), every person with an opinion feeling proud of it, and you realized that you have no power to deal with it, then you have to mind your own business and leave the common folk to their own devices.”

12. Moderation: This includes individual behavior, scientific moderation, and moderation between literal and whimsical interpretations of scripture. Moderation is a form of relativity and is integral to all ife in the universe, as described by al-Shatibi.

Radical education revolution...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way. A whole country does! 😁

This is not exactly to the extent that I was thinking but it is definitely in the same direction. The individual skills of math, science, and other subjects are learned through experiences or focusing on topics. You don't need to spend a whole 12 year curriculum on math, it is learned almost as a by product. It's like The Karate Kid. Mr. Miyagi gave Daniel a few tasks that involved cleaning and painting around his home and as a by product he learned karate.

As the article brings out, the system people are currently learning in was designed for a different era. It needs to change.
Finland is among the top in secular education and yet they are not afraid to change their system radically and improve it. I think America and other countries need to do the same. But then again we still haven't gotten rid of inches and feet for the metric system.

Enjoy! 😁
Finland, one of the leading educational hotspots in the world, is embarking on one of the most radical overhauls in modern education. By 2020, the country plans to phase out teaching individual subjects such as maths, chemistry and physics, and...

IoT

If you’re not using the Internet of Things to engage your customers, you should be. Here are five most compelling ways that IoT can be used to create loyal customers.
If you’re not using the Internet of Things to engage your customers, you should be. Earlier this week Jessica Groopman from Altimeter published a thought provoking white paper that recommends 5 consumer facing use cases for IoT. For each use case she highlights the value proposition for both the brand and [...]

Groundbreaking mathematical theories from a relatively unknown man

FTA:
Langlands, a Canadian, is one of the world’s great mathematicians. His universe is the outer limits of pure mathematics, a rarefied realm where abstract objects exist, infinity is corralled and symmetry reigns.

In 1967, as a young professor at Princeton University, he revolutionized the ancient discipline. He discovered patterns in highly esoteric objects called automorphic forms and motives, and he restructured mathematics with two dazzling theories.

They indicated what mathematician Edward Frenkel calls “the source code of all mathematics,” and are credited with linking math’s main branches — number theory (once called arithmetic), harmonic analysis, which includes calculus, and geometry.

Russian-born mathematician Edward Frenkel, a math superstar and professor at the University of California, Berkeley, calls Canadian Robert Langlands "a modern-day Einstein." (Elizabeth Lippman)

To mathematicians, this is mind-blowing stuff. The branches deal with completely different things: number theory is about, yes, numbers, harmonic analysis studies motion and geometry deals with shapes. They may as well be different planets.

“Suddenly, you have a teleportation device that enables you to go — boom — from one place to another,” says Frenkel, a Russian-born mathematician at the University of California at Berkeley, describing the math-warping impact of Langlands’ conjectures....

Canadian Robert Langlands is 'like a modern-day Einstein,' who has devoted his life to the limits of pure mathematics
