I often see posts where someone asks how much they should charge for their project. I have no idea what idiot came up with the solution that 3 times the cost of the yarn was a solid formula for setting a price, nor do I understand why anyone should believe it. Customers are NOT buying YARN they are buying your TIME & TALENT.
Cost of the yarn considers nothing about your ability, the intricacies of the pattern or the TIME from YOUR life spent creating a project. You can buy more supplies but the time, the hours and minutes of your life, once spent, are gone forever.
Anxious to sell, many talented Artisans deeply undersell themselves. Please do not make it harder for others to establish the true value of their work. Do not “give away” your life for pennies while knowing you should have gotten more. If it is too cheap customers will believe it has NO VALUE.
I have always believed that if both the seller and the buyer agree it shall be deemed a fair and just price. You did the work, you be the judge, set a fair price then stand by it. Oh, and lets stop calling it “home made” like it was flea market fodder and start telling the world the best is “HAND CRAFTED.”
Thank you for your time (Rant off)
