What do you do when your Breeze query doesn't return the results you expected?

In this topic, we'll assume you actually got results from the server but they aren't showing up as Breeze entities, at least not in the way you expected.

You don't see this everyday: ColdFusion on the back end with Breeze/Angular on the front.

This example application demonstrates the basic CRUD features provided by Breeze.js backed by a custom CFML library.
The server-side code to make this interaction work is surprisingly minimal.

Filtering, sorting, paging, projecting, eager loading ...

Noel Stieglitz's Blog. Advanced Queries with BreezeJS. BreezeJS is a JavaScript library to help manage data in rich client web applications. It's especially useful in Enterprise and Line of Business (LOB) applications where users often query, save, and delete large amount of data.

Mocks can be especially powerful when you are building out the front-end and the back-end isn't entirely ready yet.

"Metadata by hand ... in depth", covers even more of the options.

It explains in greater depth what is going on and the relationship between the Breeze Labs MetadataHelper and the native Breeze metadata format.
Metadata by hand ... in depth. The related topic "Metadata by Hand" is an introduction to writing your own metadata in JavaScript rather than depending on the server to generate it for you. It tell you all you need to know about writing metadata for your model.

We've just updated our query examples, but if you still can't find something you're looking for, please let us know.

A Breeze Web API controller and a BreezeJS client have a shared understanding about the nature and format of HTTP requests, responses and payloads.
The Web API controller. The Basic Breeze teaching tests demonstrate the Breeze EntityManager making requests of an ASP.NET Web API controller. The ASP.NET Web API is a framework for building HTTP services. Its simplicity has made it instantly popular with .NET backend developers who are used to ...

The Breeze EntityManager offers several methods for retrieving entities from cache without visiting the server.
Querying Locally. The Breeze EntityManager is both a gateway to server data and a cache of entities. Entities enter the cache as a result of. querying the server with an EntityQuery; adding new entities to cache; importing entities from another EntityManager or from file ...

An essential quandry is how to present all available many-to-many mappings so the user can pick which ones to keep and which to discard.

Here's one way to do it ... with a live code example.
Presenting a Many-to-Many association with Checkboxes in Breeze and Angular. It is surprisingly difficult to write an intuitive UI with which a user can maintain many-to-many associations. This "Cool Breeze" describes one way to do it ... with a live code example (see below) ...

What’s coming in the relationship between ASP.NET and Angular (and related client-side technology) ... and how do you differentiate what to create on the server from what to create on the client.

Find out in episode #119 of Jesse Liberty's "Yet Another Podcast" with Scott Hunter, Jon Galloway, and Ward Bell.

Working with large object graphs? Breeze queries using POST may help.

This feature is for handling large object graphs as query parameters - object graphs so large that they won't fit in a URL.

It updates the Breeze AJAX adapter to tell jQuery's AJAX implementation to use POST instead of GET.

(This is an add-on to Breeze, and it requires changes to the way your .withParameters queries are structured, so don't use it unless you really need it.)
