Smell-goods.
I've been wanting to do this post for a while because I'm obsessed with the Essence of Beauty line of body mists I found in CVS. Not only do they not  smell cheap, they are cheap (at $7 a bottle) and have serious staying power. No lie, the scents linger all...

God bless pregnancy hormones. They can be natural relief for depression and anxiety but with that comes a new set of possible symptoms, including breakouts. My skin was perfect before pregnancy. I hardly ever got a zit. But t...

My shower gel.
I'm starting this post because I kvell  every time I get a whiff of myself post-shower. And I don't speak Yiddish. We've tried all the body washes, from Bath & Body Works to high-end Crabtree & Ev and everything in between. But it's nice to be wooed back to...

"Charles Darwin’s 12 Rules of Blogging Survival" via +ProBlogger (article attached)

1. Be the best teacher in your niche
2. Be more personal than the others
3. Be funnier than the others
4. Say what everyone else thinks
5. Be the expert on a specific sub-niche
6. Have a bigger vision
7. Be more extreme than the others
8. Be more creative than the rest
9. Cross-pollinate better than the others
10. Be the best curator of meaningful content
11. Be the news source for your industry
12. Work harder than the rest

How much of this has become natural? I think having so much social media sharing experience (especially with microblogging; experimenting with what works and what doesn't) has helped a lot of us become natural, engaging bloggers over the years.

+Tashina Combs The vegan couple! I love that and think that it would expand your readership even. Video blogging is great. Hosting videos on Youtube would bring in a ton of traffic with the right optimization, even though there are prettier options (I love Vimeo but have never seen any traffic from there).

Sometimes with Google the little things really do count to get more search traffic. If you search for "auto tagging" plugins for WordPress, you can go back and add tags to posts with no tags with the click of a button. Also, I use a plugin called SEO SearchTerms 2 that tells you which keywords people are using to get to your site. I love adding all those keywords as tags as well, and there are a few other neat things you can do for optimization from within the plugin. The little things! :) cc +Janine Fowler Alternative Housewife

First baby haul.
I've officially completed my first baby haul thanks to Labor Day sales this weekend. Everyone's been all,  when are you going to start shopping for baby?  And I'm the type to follow my instincts. I just hadn't had the urge. But as the oxytocin flows and I g...

Starting a baby registry.
So I'm starting a baby registry. And I'll admit I'm still getting a hang of the whole thing. What do you add? Is it like Pinterest for baby stuff? Why should I expect people to buy stuff for me because I decided to have a baby? Ignore that. I can be cynical...

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Google+...the next Foursquare (but with more privacy control)?
Mike Elgan originally shared:

Help file mistake reveals that Google+ will get Foursquare-like 'check-ins.'

A Google Places help file prematurely released but since removed says:

"If your customers have to visit your locations in order to do business with you, you can request that they check-in on Google+ in order to redeem your offers. They can choose to share the check-in publicly or with some of their circles, which helps spread the word about your business on Google+. They can also choose to keep their check-in private and still redeem an offer."

That Google+ would get check-ins, and that Google+ checkins would replace those on Places and Latitude was always a safe bet.

But I love this part: "They can also choose to keep their check-in private and still redeem an offer."

It's the benefits of other check-in services, without the necessity of spamming your circles.

This is a welcoming new hookah cafe in a convenient neighborhood with a well-kept exterior and interior. You can't miss the sign at night on Smith Place while cruising south on North High Street! Customer service is impeccable and the prices are standard, if not a bit cheaper than surrounding hookah bars. Definitely check this place out as they're open early (3pm) and close late (4am) most days of the week!

I love everything about this sports bar, including the atmosphere, the classy food, the cocktails and beer selection, and the service. You'd never know that I'm not a sports fan.

Trendy, swanky cocktail bar, decent sushi. I recommend this place for the atmosphere, especially if you'd like to get dressed up and come for dinner & cocktails before a night out.

I had to give this place a second go before I realized that I loved the experience. They have maybe one of the best menu selections I've seen in the Short North, and the place has an artsy feel. It's a fusion restaurant, so there's a bit of everything. Definitely start with the sampler.
