...Lovely dinner ended on bitter sour note due to the owner/sushi chef (is it Yoshi? - whatever his name is, we didn't even ask bc our jaws were still on the table). We were berated and spoken down to, along with being dismissed mid-sentence as he walked away as a power move to belittle us. As one of our starters, we ordered the Kanpachi (yellowtail) Sashimi Special which was very very fishy and gluey, and the ends were curled up on each piece as though it had been sitting out for a while. Sticky fish - scary fish. So we apologetically informed our sweet sweet waitress of this, the 'fishy taste', she took it back. He waited until the end of our meal - after we had finished all of the food we had ordered up to that point - and while we were in mid-laughter enjoying our time he came to insult us and let us know we are the only ones who felt this way about the yellowtail! and how dare us! We apologized and also explained that that is just how the fish tasted to us, but that everything else was delicious, and then we realized how defensive and borderline aggressive he was becoming. He demanded to know what exactly we meant and defined as 'fishy' and we could tell this was not going to go well, so we then very diplomatically tried to let him know that people's taste are different and that is what it must be and at no point did we mean to insult him personally, nor say all 'his' food was terrible, in fact we had a lovely meal aside from the kanpachi, sir. Insult insult, you don't know anything, insult insult, you don't get to talk because I am finished with you and in fact am going to charge you half of the $20 dish to make a point that this is my place and I am the boss and you are wrong. Waitress is wincing and mortified and bowing repeatedly and apologizing profusely in quiet tones for fear of being heard by her boss (turns out this is not abnormal behavior for him). We just sent the dish back, were willing to try the same one, just maybe fresher, didn't make a stink (ha! I mean fuss)- but it was apparent he.needed.to.let.us.know….wrong.we.were. But only at the end! not right when it happened! so we could be charged for the higher end items that were on our order (we were going to order a couple more things and dessert, but he didn't know this and certainly not after that). So why is he still in business when there are several reviews over the years talking about this? Decor and location aren't everything. We were so happy to finally go to our neighborhood sushi place on our anniversary. It's a shame that people swoon over the food that is not THE BEST (which he also claimed to be) and are allured and fooled by decor. End result: $200 for being berated on our anniversary.

Simple, fresh, well balanced flavors where the fish was the star of each roll/dish.

Excellent and healthy. Service provided explanations to dishes that were very helpful. The fish extremely fresh and well presented. One of the best in the city.

Brown rice sushi still feels experimental

Not cheap, little pricy , but if you consider the awesome quality, freshness of raw fish flavor, shiso leaves on some dishes, Japanese eggplants miso sauce, sea urchin risotto and everything in between. Price becomes not an issue. Money well spent I'd say!

Nice Eames decor in this boutique sushi joint. Everything exudes style and flavor, and you pay for it. Great tasty sushi creations, and don't be surprised if you run into celebs here. Last time: Reese Witherspoon and Jake G.
