SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Attorneys general in Central America expressed concern Thursday over comments from their U.S. counterpart suggesting increased deportations of gang members by the United States.
El Salvador Attorney General Douglas Melendez said his country, Honduras and Guatemala need to be prepared to deal with more gangsters. Transnational gangs like Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, are already blamed for staggering violence in those so-called Northern Triangle countries.

HONOLULU — Hawaii has filed an amended federal lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban.
The amended suit was filed Tuesday, a day after Trump signed an executive order for the revised ban that will restrict travel by people from six Muslim-majority countries.
U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson on Wednesday granted the state’s request to continue with the case and set a hearing for March 15 — the day before Trump’s revised ban is due to go into effect.

SAN DIEGO — Immigrant advocacy groups said Tuesday that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are allegedly turning away asylum-seekers before their claims can be heard, violating obligations under U.S. and international law.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a final rule published in the Federal Register today adjusting the fees required for most immigration applications and petitions. Applications for adjusting status to a greencard, travel documents, employment authorization, and citizenship applications are an example of new fees that will be effective Dec. 23, 2016.
