This is awesome, if it actually works well: a 3D-printed toothbrush that cleans your teeth in 6 seconds. It's $299 and lasts a year. They'll refurbish it with new bristles for $89.

"We have learned that in pursuit of its bureaucratic mission to obtain signals intelligence in a pervasively networked world, the NSA has mounted a systematic campaign against the foundations of American power: constitutional checks and balances, technological leadership, and market entrepreneurship. The NSA scandal is no longer about privacy, or a particular violation of constitutional or legislative obligations. The American body politic is suffering a severe case of auto-immune disease: our defense system is attacking other critical systems of our body."

The whole essay is quite good.

If you haven't enabled recovery options for your Google (e.g. gmail) account, take a minute to do it. If you're feeling only slightly more ambitious and want top notch security, set up two step verification while you're at it.
Many people forget that if their account gets hijacked, there's no way for Google to reset the password unless we have a secure way to tell it's really them, not an attacker.  Easy to fix, but you gotta do it.

Today I learned there's a gene called sonic hedgehog. (Yes, seriously: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_hedgehog.) Pretty cool.

Even cooler is that it apparently has therapeutic effects in mice (and maybe someday humans).
