Pretty good. I just moved here and still kind of new to Sushi. The owner is super nice and patience. Shrimp tempura is great.

Horrible service at this restaurant, they treated me as if they didn't really want me there. The sushi was mediocre at best

Best Sushi in Iowa the owner is always there making sure every guest is happy . This is the only place I go for sushi it is absolutely phenomenal. Service staff atmosphere let alone the sushi. Hey this guy taught the staff and helped create the menu at Waterfront.

After having been here twice now, I remain unimpressed. The first time we went, it had just opened up and my party was the only one there. The waiters at the time pretty much ignored us and instead just watched the movie on the TV. The sushi was underwhelming, especially for the price we were paying. All of us let with a bad taste in our mouths. So when Groupon was selling deals to Hoshi Sushi, we decided to go back as quite a bit of time had passed since it's opening to give it a second chance. The place was much busier, but the service wasn't any better. We had to grab our own utensils after being seated and for the most part was ignored. They then proceeded to lose our orders, which amounted to the sushi order slip. Even though we were sitting at the sushi counter. It took almost an hour and a half to even get our food. The young man behind the counter seemed nice though and when we did finally get his attention, corrected the lost order for free. However the tempura roll was tiny and half of the pieces didn't even contain any salmon at all. Just rice, nori, cucumber and avacado. There are honestly better places to go an get sushi in Des Moines, so just skip this place. Maybe their non sushi food is better, but I don't have any intention of trying for a third time.

Best sushi I have had in town yet. Their ingredients are always fresh & the food is fantastic. If you are looking for something good to try stop in & you won't be disappointed. Personal favorite so far is the Hoshi roll!

Had a gift card, decided to use it for lunch on a Saturday. Open time is 11AM, waited outside until 11:36 for the doors to open. Preparing the sushi seemed to take forever, an hour into our meal and the second round of sushi hasn't come yet. Taste isn't anything special, right between HyVee and Taki, but for the price it really should be much better. Friendly staff, but the servers seem very disorganized. Appare, Taki and Fuji are about the same price, far better tasting, and much quicker service. Don't recommend until they step up their game.

Our first time there, the rice did not seem to be cooked all the way. We asked our server about this and she said "That's how the chef prefer to make his sushi." Odd, as you'd want your sushi to taste it's best... not with undercooked rice. Second time with Groupon, it seemed to be a plate full of the same ingredients. Mango in every roll and barely any fish. I know we were using a Groupon but didn't expect less fish and more mango because of that. Hmm..

Friendly staff. Worst sushi I've ever has the displeasure of eating. We ordered 5 different rolls and they were all bad. Crab rangoon was tasty but small.
