Podbird is now 2 years old! To celebrate we've released version 0.8 to the click store! This release brings a number of major improvements including:

* Queue support - It's now possible to add multiple podcasts to a queue so that they play one after another.

* Full download manager integration - Downloads will now continue when Podbird is closed and you'll be able to track their status in the system transfer indicator. This also includes a number of bug fixes to download handling.

* Downloads tab - The episodes page now includes an extra tab showing all your downloaded episodes in one place. This tab also shows a summary of any downloads in progress or queued.

* Visual improvements - We've updated Podbird to use Ubuntu Components 1.3 and made a number of UI enhancements.

* WiFi only setting - It's now possible to tell Podbird to only automatically download episodes when you have a WiFi connection.

* Update podcast artwork - You can now get Podbird to update all the artwork it has cached for your podcasts from the settings page.

This release was made possible thanks to the hard work of +Nekhelesh Ramananthan, +Kevin Feyder, Eran Uzan and +Mike Sheldon, plus the awesome Ubuntu translation team.

Hello everyone,

Its been over a year since the first release of Podbird. We would like to know how we are doing and gather feedback from our community. This will help us identify our strengths and weakness and plan ahead for Podbird 1.0.

It would help immensely if you could fill in a small survey linked below. We will share the results of this survey once we have sufficient responses.

Just pushed Podbird Devel 0.7.6 to the store. It brings an array of improvements and bug fixes.

The main highlight is the migration to DownloadManager which finally allows Podbird to download a series of episodes while being backgrounded/suspended. You can even track the progress of the downloads in the transfer indicator.

We also added the ability to reorder items in the queue.

And finally we added support for multi-select mode where you can select several episodes to add to the queue, or download, delete, favourite. etc.

Note: We are now wrapping up with the 0.7.x devel series. Our focus now will be to get all these goodies into Podbird stable v0.8. We encourage our devel testers to report bugs if they find any to ensure that they get fixed before our 0.8 release.

Enjoy!

We're super excited to announce the release of Podbird Devel 0.7.5. This brings one of the much anticipated features Queue support. You can now queue up as many episodes as you like and Podbird will play them sequentially (obviously even while running in the background). You can also control its playback using the sound indicator.

This is the first implementation and might have bugs. If you do have any wishlists (regarding the queue support) / experience bugs, please report them at our launchpad page. That is the best way to ensure they get addressed before we backport this to the stable release.

Over the next devel releases, we will look to add more features to the queue feature like saving/reloading queue on reopening the app, adding all episodes to the queue in one go, etc.

Hot on the heals of Podbird Devel 0.7.3.1 is the hot-fix update 0.7.4.1 to fix the episode description not being visible in the dark theme. While at it, we also added the feature to favourite an episode. Also minor design refreshes on some pages.

Next up, we will be revamping the Podcasts Grid View [1]. In tablet view, the grid view will more natural and utilize the screen estate better than the list view.

Just pushed out Podbird Devel 0.7.3.1 which brings some nice improvements to the previous release. Enjoy!

Full Changelog:
- Migrated to Ubuntu.Components 1.3
- Updated framework version to 15.04.3
- Migrated to QtMultimedia 5.4
- Migrated to Ubuntu.Components.Popup 1.3

- Migrated to new PageHeaders
- Added zebra colouring of listitems in the WhatsNew and Episodes Page similar to the Podcasts page
- Combined About and Credits into one page using page headers
- Changed slider color to green to match app theme

- Removed ListItemStylePatch.qml as upstream bug has been fixed!
- Removed theme change dialog as upstream bug is fixed. This means dynamic theme switching is back without having to reboot the app! Yay! [2]
- Removal of the use of automaticOrientation variable to disable app rotation. This variable is no longer respected by Unity8 and is in fact slated to be removed in the upcoming OTAs as told by michael zanetti.
- Removed CustomScrollBar.qml as the SDK ones now offer customization

- Converted whole app to new ListItemLayouts [1]
- Removed SubtitledListItem.qml as it is now easily implemented using ListItemLayouts
- Removed generic ListDelegate which was the performance bottleneck

While I had a bit of time off I decided to try and get the +Podbird web-services into a usable state. The website at http://podbird.org can now synchronise with the Podbird client to keep a list of all your subscribed podcasts, it uses this information to provide a chart of all Podbird user's top podcasts, it can produce individual recommendations for you based on your subscriptions and most importantly it checks all the feeds in its database regularly and provides push notifications to your phone when there are new episodes.

I'll upload a click for brave people to test with once I've sorted out a couple of small remaining issues on the client side, but for now here's a few screenshots of notifications to get excited about :)
