"At the New Year's eve, I went to Mahalchari, a remote upazilla of Khagrachari district, my former constituency. I met some wonderful people who have remembered me throughout the years. I remain grateful to them," says Wadud Bhuiyan after a successful public engagement visit to Mahalchari.

Khagrachari BNP, led by its president Wadud Bhuiyan, shows protests in response government's authoritarian decision to strip the “Swadhinata Padak” off late president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman – a mockery to the legacy of the greatest president of the country, as he had initiated the award to honor the country’s best child. It is still Bangladesh’s highest state award given by the government.

After Ziaur Rahman was killed in 1981, he was awarded “Swadhinata Padak” posthumously by the consequent government for his heroic performance in the country’s war of independence against Pakistan in 1971.

Ziaur Rahman also was the brightest amongst nine sector commanders who operated the war against Pakistan. He also founded Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which is now the only genuine opposition party of the country.

The illegal regime set upon unilateral elections boycotted by all major parties but current Awami League party already removed the Zia’s award out of vengeance.
