In honor of International Compost Awareness Week, we thought it only fitting to give you some tips regarding compost quality, straight from Garden-Ville’s resident “Soil Chef” Zach Halfin.
“What’s the difference between compost and good compost? The biggest factor in compost quality is the percentage of organic matter the compost contains. Organic matter is key to a healthy and fertile soil. It contains most of the life in the soil. Our Eco Thrive and Rejuvenator composts are tested and regularly contain around 50% organic matter, while some of our competitors’ products come in at much less. Some guys even mix their composts with sand or soil and sell it as compost. With our products you get what you are paying for and that is a product that will improve plant growth and reduce water usage while simultaneously improving soil quality and providing nutrients to your garden.”

“Our local alkaline soils are fantastic for growing Artichoke. This cousin to the common Thistle is a cool season growing perennial that can be planted from seed or division in the fall through spring. Unlike most leafy perennial plants, this plant goes dormant during the hot months only to emerge with new growth in the fall. These specimens are organically grown in our clay soil amended with Garden-Ville’s Rejuvenator Compost.”

Thanks Zach Halfin, Garden-Ville's resident "soil chef", for this great info!

Thanks to fall rain and a mild winter, we're now able to enjoy a very showy spring wildflower display. Check out this great pic of a wild honey bee and beautiful naturalized Bread Seed Poppy. You can see lots of lovely Poppies right now in Georgetown, the Red Poppy Capital of Texas. Georgetown is also the home of one of our Garden-Ville locations, where you can find a wide selection of wildflower seeds and seed planting accessories. We hope to see you soon!

The mild winter and wet weather has made for a beautiful spring with abundant flowers, vibrant greenery and unfortunately, pesky mosquitoes. Luckily, we carry a variety of products like reed diffusers, candles and incense sticks made of Citronella, Lemongrass and Rosemary to help keep those pests away. Check your local store for specific product availability.
