It's like a hotel run by your grandmother. That's your grandmother who's in her late 80s and can't move around very well anymore. So some spaces just never get cleaned. It's been a few years since she's properly hoovered the floor. She's lived in her house so long, she doesn't notice the plumbing is bad. She doesn't seem to care about the paint chipping on walls, the shower mold, dodgy wiring or rusted fixtures. All exactly the same things you will find at this hotel. If you stayed here for free you might not mind. But for the price, you are much, much, much better off at the Premier Inn.

POSITIVES. We booked the hotel primarily for its dog friendly facilities and the location. It was a last minute decision and therefore we were short of options but were pleased with the prospect of staying there. It was soon apparent that the consistent reviews and comments from various sites were still relevant. The location was great for us, there was plenty of parking, the staff were friendly and helpful and although we never used the pool etc we were frequently encouraged to explore the leisure facility. The breakfast was brilliant and the reception area and function room were great. The hotel is very attractive from the outside and has great kerbside appeal. NEGATIVES. However the comments of tired and aged decor couldn't have been more accurate. The room was very tired, the mattress was well past its best and the headboard was badly stained, we actually tolerated the room as we considered the possibility we were placed in it due to having a dog however the general decor throughout appeared to have been done by a 75year old woman, to her taste and without her glasses! Booking sites described the hotel as having 30 rooms decorated to a high standard - WRONG!! They clearly have never inspected the areas which were blatantly neglected of paint for many years. We do not expect to pay good money to stay in a room that we would not tolerate in our own home but we were not in a position to relocate and made the most of the stay but unfortunately the many positives were not enough to convince us to stay again unless there had been a significant improvement to the standards of decor and finish.

Just had dinner at Stonecross Manor, Kendal, it was excellent!! The starter, main course and dessert were just perfect, even the bread was delicious and all three courses for £20 I am very particular and like good food and this certainly passed. The staff were very nice also.
