It's the end of an era I grew up with. My parents had Sputnik and a walk on the moon, while my generation had Challenger and the space shuttle program, the International Space Station, and the Hubble telescope. I really thought we'd be farther along than this - but too many smart people went into making a quick buck with the Internet, when they probably could have been rocket scientists. Now that the shuttle program is being privatized, maybe they'll make enough money to attract enough bright minds to invent warp drive. Aren't there any rich people out there who want to fly around Mars and back?
