While there is no definitive right answer and added insight certainly welcome, I believe the top five characteristics of successful #entrepreneurs are: #confidence (if you don't #believe in yourself, who else will?), #resilience (#success in any endeavor is never easy and often marked by difficulty), #opportunity recognition (there's a big difference between a good idea and a good opportunity), #dedication (are you willing to pay the price?) and #humility (as soon as learning stops, so does your success). Bonus characteristic: #innovative.

While a little cliche, it's true that half the battle is simply just showing up. One of the things that scares me the most is wasted #opportunity. Forget fear of #failure; nothing is worse than looking back at missed chances. More often than not it's disguised by going the extra mile and showing up when there are more convenient or interesting things to do. Excuses get us nowhere. Make the #sacrifice now and enjoy the freedom you crave later. #leadership #entrepreneur #getbusy

It always starts with the #customer. Do your research and really understand what it is that "delights" your target market. The students in my intro to #entrepreneurship class began this journey today seeking validation from customers as to whether they are on the right track or not. While it may be tempting to go with your gut and feel awesome for guessing right, no business is going to make it long-term using a #strategy of #luck. #digin #worksmart

For positive #change to happen, an individual or #team must recognize there's even a reason to grow in the first place. Individual(s) must be #motivated and #committed enough to work towards the desired transformation until it is accomplished. Change doesn't happen by accident, but by consistent, intentional effort. #changemanagement #leadership #tenacity

Much thanks to Erich Sontag for sharing this extraordinary factoid as told by Naval Adm. William H. McRaven during his commencement speech at The University of Texas at Austin on May 17, 2014: "The average American will meet 10,000 people in their lifetime. That's a lot of folks. But, if every one of you changed the lives of just 10 people — and each one of those folks changed the lives of another 10 people — just 10 — then in five generations — 125 years — the class of 2014 will have changed the lives of 800 million people. 800 million people — think of it — over twice the population of the United States. Go one more generation and you can #change the entire population of the world — eight billion people." While changing the world is a lofty #goal, nothing is as important as an individual in need. Simple acts matter. Our choices for good or evil truly can make a spiraling difference. #servantleadership #humility #together

There's a lot to be said about follow-through. I'm saddened by how often I observe a lack of #commitment from individuals who agree to complete assignments or tasks and then fail to do so. Even worse, shrug it off like it's not a big deal. I worry it's becoming epidemic in our society. Exercising #integrity on what we commit to goes a long way. I've long believed it's a necessary skill to have or develop in today's workplace. It surely can take you far and set you apart from a growing societal apathy. #leadership #ownit #justdoit #atleastpretenditsimportant

The continued support for #entrepreneurs in #Ogden is phenomenal. There has never been a better time to get involved than now. Don't wait until our next economic downturn to begin working on your dream. Start now while things are good. #livenow #itsnevertoolate #wakeup

We can wait for other people, organizations, governments, etc., to save the world. We can rely on presidents, vocal leaders and the well-known to affect #change, pass laws or influence. Unfortunately, It will never be enough no matter how valiant the effort. It always starts with each one of us taking action, no matter how small. Our individual efforts collectively will make the difference that's needed in this world. In fact, it's the only thing. #leadership #selflessness #startwithkindness

#Opportunity can be defined as the difference between who we are today and who we should become tomorrow. Strong #character is both the starting and ending point of all worthy human endeavor. Unyielding character forges the present with our optimum #future. #characterbasedleadership #servantleadership #bethegood
