Not good.
Buzzfeed has an interesting article about the evolution of Google Reader. While the article mostly focuses on the social features that were removed from Google Reader a few months after Google+ was launched, there are some thought-provoking insights from former Google Reader engineers that reveal why the service has never been a priority for Google and why it can always be discontinued. "In the beginning, the best word I can use is that Google to...

Oh that backheel from Ronaldo to himself!

I did neither of these things on Friday.  I should try them both.
Real Madrid clinched the Spanish Supercopa with today's victory over Barcelona, but Lionel Messi still did something remarkably Messi-like on this free kick at the end of the first half. Be sure to watch the replay that begins at the 45-second mark to see the way Messi managed to get the ball outside the wall and back inside the goal post. Pretty routine stuff. Then again, Ronaldo scored this goal, and his team won. The replay on this one shows t...

Ok Ok. The point is made more eloquently than me in the final paragraph:

"That's the problem with Romney's "joke," too. It falls into a long list of remarks that suggest an emotional myopia based on an extremely sheltered life experience. It comes across as gloating about the fact that, as a rich white man born into a wealthy and powerful family, Romney has rarely been subject to the kind of racist or sexist assumptions that clog the daily lives of millions of Americans. Romney might as well joke that he's never been mistaken for a waiter in a restaurant or a clerk in a retail store, or that he's never been selected for extra screening at an airport or randomly told to empty his pockets by the NYPD. The reason Romney doesn't have to show the country his papers isn't because everyone knows he was born in Michigan. It's because whiteness remains unquestionably "American" for some people in a way blackness does not. That should not be a point of pride for Romney; it should be a matter of anger and disappointment."
Mitt Romney made a birther joke. "Now I love being home, in this place where Ann and I were raised, where both of us were born," Romney told a campaign rally in Michigan. "Ann was born at Henry Ford Hospital I was born at Harper Hospital. No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate they know that this is the place we were born and raised." The crowd at first laughed, then cheered. Here's the video: Romney is not himself a birther. He was eng...

I'm not sure how we found out about it. I think just about every apple II
game had another mode or something on the back side, so we probably just
tried it.

Teal?
There's a reason this Udinese-Braga match is a Champions League qualifier, and not the Champions League. Udinese defender Pablo Armero, after scoring earlier, found himself all alone with a chance to clinch things. He would not, as you see, and Braga would score the equalizer and win on PKs thanks to a failed Panenka. Don't be too down, Armero. I'm sure you're good at your day job, whatever that is. Update: And here's that penalty kick. H/T Cars...

I really don't even know what to say.....
Could Todd Akin survive the fallout from his “legitimate rape” comment? A new Family Research Council poll suggests he could. The poll found that Akin now has 45 percent support to McCaskill’s 42 percent, though those figures are within the poll’s margin of error. The poll also finds that he still leads McCaskill by 10 points among independents. The poll also found that Akin still has overwhelming support on the right. One pollster said, “McCaski...

Tig talks about this on the most recent Professor Blastoff http://www.professorblastoff.com/2012/08/65-free-for-alltig-update/.

I'd love to see this.  I just subscribed to Professor Blastoff a few months ago, but it's already one of my favorites.  It has very little structure, which can be a weakness of the show.  But, that's also the only way it could ever have moments that have me laughing so hard that it brings tears to my eyes.
