The U.S. Surgeon General is a nurse! Congratulations to Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams on being named U.S. Surgeon General over the weekend. She is a perfect choice--and a friend of VUSN. We were fortunate to have her speak here in January. Congratulations, Surgeon General Trent-Adams. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/21/us/politics/surgeon-general-trump-administration.html http://ow.ly/i/u7pai

I'm not giving away any spoilers, but let's just say I'm looking forward to Sunday's new episode of "Call the Midwife" on NPT. There have been certain plot twists this season that I really disliked (hint: look at the photo) but I do love it when Sister Monica Jean is happy.

If you see Ginny Moore, director of our Women's Health specialty, congratulate her on being a finalist for Nashville's Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Award. She was nominated by the Sexual Assault Center in the capacity-building award category. The Strobel awards are Middle Tennessee's most prestigious volunteer recognition.

Did you watch last night's episode of "Call the Midwife?" What did you think? Here's what VUSN's Michelle Collins wrote about it in our weekly School of Nursing "Call the Midwife" recap. http://blogs.wnpt.org/mediaupdate/2017/04/17/ctm-6-3/

Better than "Downton Abbey" or "Doctor Who"! Members of the public voted "Call the Midwife" Britain's best drama of the 21st Century in a national poll this week. The show had already been picked as the century's best period drama in a "Radio Times" poll. Doesn't that make you want to watch it on Nashville Public Television this Sunday at 7 p.m.? (Yes, VUSN is a proud sponsor.)

Dinner with the Dean! Members of the VUSN Graduate Council were Dean Linda Norman's guests this week for an evening of fine food and even better conversation. Incoming students: this could be you next year!

No, no, don't tell me! I have last night's "Call the Midwife" episode on my DVR. I don't want to know what happens...but if you do, check out VUSN midwife Bethany Sanders' blog at http://blogs.wnpt.org/mediaupdate/2017/04/10/ctm-6-2/ and tune in Sunday nights on NPT and other PBS stations.
