Yes, he actually said that.

During last night’s first presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for the 2012 US election, Romney said he liked coal and that he would make sure that we continue burning dirty and climate-killing coal.

MITT ROMNEY: "And by the way, I like coal. I’m going to make sure we continue to burn clean coal. People in the coal industry feel like it’s getting crushed by your policies. I want to get America and North America energy independent, so we can create those jobs."

A full transcript of the debate can be found here: http://www.npr.org/2012/10/03/162258551/transcript-first-obama-romney-presidential-debate. Spoiler: Not a word was mentioned about climate change or the environment.

For me its absolutely crazy that in 2012 a presidential candidate can say, without hesitation or regret, that he loves coal. It's unbelievable.

He literally said "continue to burn CLEAN coal". Coal plants utilize technologies now that don't release harmful outputs into the environment.

I like coal too. Makes for great BBQs.

coal is much cheaper to mine than nuke energy and oil is expensive to drill for""
