Delighted to be asked to contribute to the Sunday Mail #10YearsYounger feature. As always the main message is maintaining the health and beauty of the natural smile. If improvements are required however, there are wonderful advancements in cosmetic dentistry that allow minimally invasive and reliable solutions. http://ow.ly/i/ywS0n

Dental Hygiene Tip #5 - Regular visits to the hygienist remove plaque & calculus/tartar which prevent the development of more serious progressive conditions.
If left unchecked, plaque or tartar around the teeth can lead to gingivitis – an inflammatory condition affecting the gums. This presents as bleeding gums and should be dealt with as soon as possible.
If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis which is irreversible. Periodontitis involves the loss of the supporting structure of the teeth, including bone, leading to recession of the gum, tooth mobility and ultimately tooth loss if left untreated.

Continuing with our theme of oral hygiene: Tip #4 - a recommended 4 visits annually to the hygienist may seem expensive. That’s why we partner with Denplan. We offer 2 levels of Denplan - Essentials Plan with 2 annual hygiene visits - £14.06 per month and Essentials Plan with 4 annual hygiene visits - £22.06 per month. Both prices are for adults and also include 2 dental exams, routine x-rays as required worldwide emergency dental insurance.
This enables our patients to spread their payments and maximise their visits and appointments. For more information, please contact us.

Next in our oral hygiene series - #3 - Visit your dental hygienist every 3 - 6 months depending on your own specific requirements. Your dental hygienist will assess a number of factors, including the health of your soft tissue throughout the mouth and advise on a maintenance programme to suit. They will also carry out a number of procedures to professionally clean your teeth and remove plaque and calculus/tartar. Our hygienists use both manual and electric instruments and air polishers to restore the natural shine of the teeth.

Happy #lefthandersday and here’s an interesting ambidextrous fact: All our KaVo Dental North America chairs are ambidextrous, which means they can flip round for left handed or right handed dentists in less than 2 minutes!

We are committed to training and encouraging our team to grow and develop. Most recently it was the turn of our dental nurse Jenn, who was in London attending a #dentalimplant nurse training course with Dawood & Tanner Specialist Dental Practice. This is part of ongoing commitment to further education from the whole team, allowing us to provide the best and most up to date treatment that we can.

We're continuing our series of tips for good oral hygiene practice.
#2 - floss at least once a day.
Whilst effective brushing will ensure maintenance of the visible surfaces of the teeth, flossing can be very effective in ensuring the tight contacts between the teeth & the areas of the teeth beneath the gum line are also cleaned.
You can use traditional floss but we are big fans of the air flosser, which you can buy in the clinic. If you would like a demonstration on any of the procedures described, just ask your dental hygienist at your next appointment.
