I read Jim Webb's book when I was a Marine. Loved it. Many years later I met him. Liked him. Through the years I've read about him, followed him in the news, and compared him to others in the political world.

The media appetite favors sweets and fats, and it has little interest in what's actually good for the body politic. I'm looking forward to the debate, and I hope he does well.

But even if he doesn't, he's still the best one of the Democratic field. Not by being the least harmful, but rather the most beneficial.
Jim Webb has done few ads or public events, but Tuesday’s stage could draw attention to his eclectic views.

Bin Laden had financial trouble? I already knew he was underwater. CNN: Secrets of the bin Laden treasure-trove http://cnn.it/1ILaM5k
In his final years, bin Laden showed great interest in family while he drew up plans for mass casualty attacks on Americans, newly released documents say.

Good read from a person who's well-qualified to say so.
My wife and I own a couple of smoothie/food shops. As small-business entrepreneurs, we take a lot of pride in providing 55 jobs while making payroll every week, all self-financed as saved- and scrimped-for investment capital. As owners, we choose to offer a 10 percent discount to first-responders and active-duty/reserve military and guardsmen. Which is where I get to my rub.

Exiled Egyptian satirist sics the dog cone on us.
He earned fame in Egypt for his scathing satire of those in power, and last night "'Egypt's Jon Stewart,' Bassem Youssef, became 'America's Bassem Youssef,’” in the words

Baltimore Sun Calls Out NBC Suck-Ups
After playing at being a TV correspondent and doing some of the worst on-air network reporting I have seen in 30 years of writing about media, Chelsea Clinton is declaring victory and moving on, she told People magazine.

Clinton's truth translator...
Hillary Clinton gave a press conference about how and why she built a private server for her government communications. It went poorly. This poorly.

Nicely done tutorials; American accent, straight to the point, good explanations.

A Ron Paul utopia isn't in America's future. But the war on drugs could be ended, mass surveillance stopped, and liberty expanded in dozens of smaller but important ways.

Running on empty, barely made it there. Say what you want, I was very lucky they were operating in the middle of nowhere. The nice lady there said they usually have at least one person per day come in on foot to buy a gas can.

There's a lot to love about Navy Federal Credit Union, but the Glen Burnie location can't seem to keep its coin-counting machine running. When I complained about it, I got a bunch of excuses (pocket lint, paper clips, etc.) but no solutions (calling a service tech, getting a better machine, etc.) This seem like a little thing, but it's all about customer service. Personally, I wish they made it a higher priority.

The seafood is excellent, and the outdoor dining area is nicely decorated (despite a lack of scenery). It's our go-to restaurant whenever we're near downtown Annapolis.
