Current Trends in Myopia Etiology - written by SCOTT A. READ.
The choroid may be a source of growth factors that influence scleral growth and eventually result in #myopia development in children.
Very interesting article about the role of the choroid in human and the possible mechanism with the current myopia control strategies like #outdoor #orthokeratology #multifocal #contacts and #atropine

Perhaps simply the lack of compliance is the problem of recurrent keratitis cases in overnight wearing.

It is also up to us eye care practitioners to improve this problem and make wearing OrthoK safe.

New systematic review, meta-analysis and modeling from the BHVI about the prevalence of global visual impairment (VI) associated with myopic macula degeneration (MMD).

"The predict prevalence of VI associated with MMD will increase eightfold between 2000 and 2050.
In terms of number, the increase is predicted to be 13 times for VI associated with MMD.
This dramatic increase is due to the compounding effects of increasing myopia, shifting high myopia demographics towards older age, increasing mean spherical equivalent (and axial length) and the ageing population."

This study demonstrates that exercise may be a modifiable risk factor that could represent a future target for public health interventions.

Chinese President Xi is aware of the increase of myopia in students

The high incidence of Chinese myopia among students, which affects more and more children at a younger age and undermines their health, is a major problem concerning the future of the country and the Chinese nation, President Xi instructed after reading a recent media report on the problem.
It will be interesting to see the scheme developed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Health Commission (NHC).
