Great. We get about the same here. I've never got a camera handy when I see one. They have so much more charm than the new diesels.

Just looking at the details of the CrokePark 2 deal - mostly OK, but one thing is really pissing me off. Why does everyone stuck at the top of their grade have to give up six days of annual leave?

With constraints on promotions during this crisis there are lots of people languishing at the top of their grades who have earned promotion years ago but not gotten them. These people have effectively been working above their grade for years, effectively taking a serious pay cut, so, as a reward, they get another kick in the nuts - nice!

Those not at the top of their grades have been getting increments throughout the crisis, cushioning the cuts, those stuck at the top of their grades have not, and have taken the full brunt of all the cuts.

Most of the deal seems quite fair, striking at the high earners, but this arbitrary slashing of more than a week of annual leave really isn't, it's just cruel and unusual punishment for people who have already suffered a lot during this crisis.

Is there a way to stop Google+ automatically signing you in to GTalk in the G+ web interface?

I am on a WEBSITE, I am not in a chat client, how dare you just assume that because I want to visit a web page I also want to be online for chat!

+George Fromtulsa I can't see any UI to allow me to enable, disable, or selectively enable or disable chat in those privacy settings. The only UI there is the list of circles, nothing more. I foolishly enabled chat at some stage, and now it appears I am stuck with it for ever.

This really made me smile today. I take my hat off to the chap for having the balls to do this, and I'm so happy at the positive reaction - we're making progress. It often seems slow, but things really are moving forward.

Sorry for the slow reply +Jason Ennis  - been a busy few days.

I'm not sure when Ciaran finishes his exams, so I started a thread in our flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/2174527@N24/discuss/72157633528436069/

+Red Hat Support What plans do you have in place to improve the (non) reliability of your download servers? It has just taken me SIX attempts to successfully download a 200MB RHEL6 Boot ISO over a 1GBit internet connection. When I download 3GB ISOs from other vendors it takes seconds, but your download server isn't even reliable enough to deliver 200MB without five re-tries. I presume you agree this is just not good enough?

One of my biggest pet peeves is companies that respond to support requests with pre-canned crap that doesn't answer the question you actually asked. They are usually great responses to questions I didn't ask, but of no help at all to me.

Evernote just pulled that stunt on me. My problem is that their iPad app has stopped launching on my fully patched iPad 4. The instructions they sent me to fix this problem start by telling me to open the app and copy and paste the content of my unsynced notes in mail. "The app does not open" - "OK, first, open the app ..." W.T.F.? How little do you have to care about your customers to do that to them? (and yes, I am a customer, I pay for their premium service, I am not a freeloader whining about a free services I don't pay for)

I can't be alone in finding this kind of customer non-support extremely frustrating bordering on infuriating?

I went out stargazing tonight with some of the guys from Astro2 (the Astronomy & Physics Society in NUI Maynooth). It was literally freezing cold, but the sky was as clear as you can hope for in Ireland. This is the best shot I got from the evening: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bbusschots/8451160451/

There was a lovely diagonal arrangement in the sky, with Sirius in the lower left, then Orion, then the Hyades Cluster in Taurus, then the planet Jupiter, and then finally the Pleiades Cluster (AKA the 7 Sisters) in the top right corner.

Very nice. I've never done a decent night sky photo. This is a nice one, Bart.
